We're playing with names for our little boys coming, and well, he likes Joseph Jakob and Theodore Patrick, with Joe and Ted nicknames. I prefer Joseph Theodore and Jakob Patrick, with Joe and Jack as nicknames. Every man in the family is a Joe. My grandfather was Jakob. So I figured that would allow both to be named after important family members. He says to be named Theodore after the greatest presidents ever is pretty great.

I don't hate Theodore, but would much rather Jakob.

Are Joe and Jack too similar?

I don't think Joe and Jack are too similar but I believe Jack is a pretty popular name currently, as is Jac(k)ob.

And I'm a TR fan myself. . .so I'm a little biased, but I think that Joe and Ted sound better together. OTOH, I don't like the J first initial, J middle initial thing. :)

    So yeah, no help.

I vote for Joe and Jack even though I like Theodore "Teddy" . I have Jazzlyn and Jesslyn nn Jazzy and Jessy and we have never had any problems with them being named similar.

From a teacher's perspective, if your children look at all alike their teachers may never call them by their first names if you go with Joe and Jack. I had a set of ID girls, Rochelle, and Raquel, who were beautiful, sweet, smart, and very very unique individuals. None of their teachers (high school) could keep them straight. We all just said Miss -----, rather than their first names for fear of picking the wrong name. Something to think about....

I think it really depends, Joe and Jack are too similar, IMO, but I also did not nor did I want to use the same first letter for my twins names, it's just not me.

I do like the names Joe and Jack though, but for me they are too similar.
