Developing at a different rate?

My girls are like chalk and cheese.. Victoria is crawling, sitting rolling over, look for her toys if they roll away. Athena likes to just sit and chill, she plays with her toys, rattle them, touch everthing, and is happy to just sit and look at the world. She is not fond of tummy time although she now gts onto all fours and rocks as well.
I am sure other moms out there also experience that their kids are developing differently at different rates and at different stuff. Would love to hear about it.

My girls couldn't be more different. As soon as Lyla is on her back she's rolling over. Sophie hasn't even done that yet. She's just more content to watch her sister and check things out. She's just starting to grab at things, too. Lyla's been doing that for a while. Lyla's a few lbs heavier too - not sure if that has anything to do w/ it. But Sophie's just content hanging back and enjoying the show. :)

My two are like this as well! Kevan rolls over the second I put him down, pushes his head way up, and looks around at everything. Then, he tries his darndest to move forward, pushes with his legs, etc. I always find him a few feet away from where I put him.....I won't be surprised if he crawls early.

Karina, on the other hand, hasn't shown the slightest interest in rolling, and is content to lie on her back....if I prop her on her side, she complains and pushes and does everything she can to return to her back, LOL.

Karina is "talking" more than Kevan, and is really quite vocal (meanwhile, my older DD barely made a sound until 18 months) -- and it's easier to make her laugh, too. Her laugh sounds exactly like Butthead's (from Beavis and Butthead -- I'm dating myself, huh?) -- which really cracks us up, which in turn makes her laugh harder.

But, Kevan is actually the smilier of the two. And, he loves to blow raspberries at us, which Karina doesn't do.

Karina started batting at toys first, although Kevan is now doing it, too. Neither is really grabbing toys and holding them, but they're both pretty close.

Karina is about 1.5 to 2 pounds heavier than Kevan -- and wider and steadier -- so she's better at sitting up supported. I expect she'll sit long before he does, but we'll see....she's not very good on her stomach, though -- I think her big ol' noggin is just too heavy to push up, LOL.

It is just SO fun to watch the two of them, and see what they're up to.....

One of my boys is one pound bigger than the other (it's been that way since the first u/s) and he has been first to achieve more of the physical milestones (rolling over, lifting head, etc.), whereas his brother has totally blown right past him in dexterity (grabbing toys, holding his spoon, holding his bottle). They are both getting on all fours and starting to rock, but the bigger baby can sit up while the other one still likes to lay around and grab his toes.

    Bridger smiled before Porter.
Porter rolled over way before Bridger.
Bridger got his first tooth before Porter.
Porter got his second tooth before Bridger.
Bridger sat up unassisted way before Porter.
    Porter crawled way before Bridger.

We're working on crawling now. Porter has been crawling for awhile, and Bridger is just starting to get up and rock on hands and knees.

Porter started crawling the same week he finally was able to sit for any stretch unassisted, and Bridger had been sitting by himself for months but is probably at least a week or two away from crawling. Porter's PT said she thinks the reason it took him more time to sit is that he has more strength than he can control, and he gets so excited and makes big movements and then over he would go! He's finally learned to control it and sits really well now, but still strange to me that sitting and crawling came so close together.

It seems like they're taking turns with everything.

my two "were" like that Jessica would spend weeks perfecting the task ie trying to roll and then a few weeks later Jorja would just "do it" she let her sister do all the work. Jessica walked at 10 months Jorja at 13 months. (if that happens to you I found that to be the hardest stage when one walking and the other crawling)

Mine are like yours. Now at 10 months, one baby has been taking steps for a month! She'll stand up unsupported, then squat down and pick up a toy and stand back up and swing it in the air. She also has figured out how to foil TWO baby gate configurations (we're SCREWED). She has two teeth on the bottom and one coming in on top. Her twin only started crawling at 9 months, isn't taking steps, has no teeth, isn't feeding herself yet, but is the sweetest little "lap baby" you ever saw!

I actually enjoyed watching them do things at different times. As a parent, you always compare your kids (not a negative thing, purely naturally-who does what when), and with these two it was fun to see the difference instead of having to look it up in the baby books. Of course, I still looked up the other kids' times.

I love your "chalk and cheese" reference! I will have to use that b/c mine are so different too.

It is so hard to not compare them, isn't it?

I just have to remind myself that they are two different people and they will do things at two different paces.

I guess this means it's ok that one has been smiling everyday for a week and the other has only smiled twice in that time? (9weeks, 5corrected) sure hard not to worry about that.

My girls are soooo different and it is such a wonderful lesson for me as a person! Such a wonderful reminder that all children develop differently and one isn't better than the next. My son did everything early and I was quite proud but I am just as proud of my girls' every accomplishment! I think there is no way not to compare them to each other but it has taught me to not compare to other babies or worry b/c they are doing something my girls aren't.
It also makes me realize so much is personality! Some babies aren't as smiley as the next or as talkative.

Evie smiled before Annalise but laughed after her.
Annalise rolled really early (5 weeks) yet her sister didn't roll until just before 4 months. Annalise rolls front to back and back to front and Evie has no desire to do so! Annalise rolls on her side or belly and sucks her thumb and goes to sleep while Evie lays on her back or rolls slightly to the side while staring at her hands!
Both girls started reaching for toys around the same time but Annalise will now roll for them. Evie waits for you to give them to her :)
Annalise started cooing first but now they both "talk" all the time especially Evie.
Evie slept through the night first and got a hang of nursing first but Annalise has a handle on day time naps! So different but so perfectly amazing!!!

    You have explained my girls.

Megan seemed to do it all first, she wanted to just go go go. Haley is happy playing with toys sitting down, just doing her own thing. They are still like this. Megan wants to get into it all and do it all. Haley on the other hand loves to sit and play for hours by herself.
