What laundry detergent do you guys use for the babies clothes and such. I do not want to use Dreft because it is so expensive.

I plan on using Dreft, but I got it at Walmart. It didn't seem too bad. I think it was $15 for a big bottle.

Target makes a brand of "Dreft" one bottle does last a good while. I am almost through our first bottle and I am planning to use our regular HE detergent. We currently are using the Method brand (from target) it is HE. Dreft can not be used in HE washers...I didn't know that and have bottles of Dreft sitting here!!! UGG!

    Good luck

I use Method Free and Clear HE, with Downey Free all the time and will continue for the twins after they join us. I can't stand smelling my clothing - ugh.

I use Dreft, but wait to buy a big thing of it when its on sale at BJ's wholesale or Target and I have a coupon. Makes it more reasonably priced. I still use it because I like it better than Tide so I wash all our clothes in it.

Cheer Free, here. Although it is pretty pricy now, too. The box I normally get is $8.50 and it went up to almost $12!!!! I almost pooped my pants!!! I think any FREE detergent would work. You could get the store generic and have the free detergent. Supposedly, those have less irritants in them anyway :)

We buy the huge Kirkland perfume and dye free stuff at Costco and use it for the whole family. It is cheap, the clothes come out clean and it has not yet irritated their skin!

I like ALL Baby. Purex Baby is a bit cheaper, but doesn't smell as nice! Or, use All Free and Clear and do everyone's laundry together!

I use the same detergent as what I use for all the adult clothes. IMHO the key is in rinsing well (no detergent residue) not in what you use in the first place. I use the extra rinse on the cycle, I use about a third to half the "recommended" amount of detergent, I wash in warm or hot water (helps clothes get clean without having to use a lot of soap), and I frequently use white distilled vinegar (add to fabric softener compartment -- helps rinse everything out).

BTW my best laundry tip is... keep a laundry brush or toothbrush around. Wet poop/food stains and scrub it with the brush under running water. Spray with a stain removal product like Shout. Then launder as usual. This method has removed almost every stain I have ever come across. I think it's the scrubbing that helps the most.

Any Free and Clear detergent should work fine and you can use the same thing for the entire family's clothes.

Sunlight Sensitive (dye, perfume free) LIQUID with COLD water and an extra rinse. Cold water works very well and saves a TON of energy... lessen your carbon footprint!!

I agree with the pp about the rinse being the most important part - and I find that liquid detergent rinses just fine with cold water. :)

I haven't washed baby clothes in a while, but the organic laundry detergent is cheaper than Dreft, you can use it for all of your clothes and it works great. Ours is Eco(something) They sell it all over and it is great. It smells clean with no perfume and you don't need to use fabric softeners with it. Good luck in your search.

I was actually thinking about using Tide with baking soda. I like the idea of the baking soda being in it for the twins' clothes. I use Tide with Lavendar and Vanilla Downy in it, for the family. I love the smell. I also like the way Tide works in my hard water. I agree, extra rinsing is the key. I have always second rinsed my babies clothes.

All Free and Clear works really well and its basically the same as All Baby and Dreft. And the cost is way better!!!

I get the big jug of All Free (white bottle) at Sam's Club. I use that for all of our family's clothes.

For fabric softener, I did not use any on my son's clothes until he was about a year old. I have such sensitive skin that I was just afraid that would bother him, too. Now I use regular liquid Downey (the only softener that doesn't bother me), and I double rinse his clothes.

Actually, you should wash the whole family's clothes in the same thing. If you are going to be holding and cuddling them they are goint to be in contact with your clothes to right?! Anyway, with that said, I you should wash everyone's clothing in an unscented laundry detergent. All Free & CLear is a favorite in our house, but we buy whatever free & clear is on sale... We actually talked to a nurse in our birthing class and she said that Dreft is basically a waste of money and actually the free & clear detergents are better since they are unscented unlike Dreft...

I used Dreft and Baby All until I found out it's not necessary but just a gimmic to sell over priced detergent to over indulgent and overly paranoid moms like myself. The ped told me that any color free, scent free detergent is fine so I switched to Clear All (I think that was the name).
