Let me just start by saying...ugh!! We have two cribs on loan to us and one of them - from Pottery Barn Kids - has a PLASTIC piece that attaches the crib rail to the side of the bed. It broke!! So now we have it rigged so it won't come apart but can't lift the side rail up and down and don't feel safe leaving my daughter in there for too much longer.

Have any of you had success moving them to toddler or other beds at a year old or am I absolutely ridiculous for thinking this? My friend moved her kids to beds at 9 months, but I personally don't really think that is the norm. I would hate to have to go and buy a crib at this point.

My girls are still in their cribs, but they aren't walking or anything. However, my friends dd is just 2 days older and has been walking for well over a month and that is what they got her for her 1st b-day present was a toddler bed. I am interested in seeing what others have to say.

    GL!

I can not imagine my two in toddler beds at this age. There is no way they would stay or are old enough to know to stay in them.

We moved our oldest DD out of her crib and on to a mattress on the floor at 27 months and put her in a bed about 4 months later. The mattress worked great while she was learning to get in/out of the bed.

My girls have not slept in a crib since they were 11 months old. I put a queen mattress on the floor of my bedroom. Since I nurse them to sleep, we didn't have the issue of them staying in the bed. We moved them to toddler beds at about 20 months but only used them a few months - crib mattresses are wicked uncomfortable. At about 30 months I bought twin mattresses & box springs - they are in my bedroom. They are still nursing to sleep - the end of breastfeeding is near - so they are asleep when I leave the room. If they awake while I am out of the room, I hear them on the monitor.

I would put them in toddler beds or twin mattresses on the floor if you stay with them until they are asleep.

I wouldn't switch them to toddler beds at 1 year. That just seems too young. Maybe you could check freecycle.org for a free crib that someone is willing to part with or Craigslist for a cheap one in the meantime.

Great idea Michelle! Thanks everyone. I knew I was probably being ridiculous, I guess I just needed to hear it. What the heck was I thinking? :icon_eek:

If you have a PNP, that would be a good temporary option.

Thank you Kelly! I cannot believe I didn't think of that (where's that DOH smiley?)!! I was panicked when it first broke wondering how the heck she was going to sleep that night if I had no place to put her. Oh my gosh, I can't believe I didn't think of that.

Michelle, PNP is the the best solution, I think. My oldest did not move to a toddler bed til 2.5 and even then was not successful until he was 3. I think waiting on that would be a good idea. :)
