Desitin on clothes and carpet

My DD, who is almost 4 and most definately knows better, got the Desitin off the shelf in her closet and smeared it all over her body - from head to toe and I don't think she missed an inch. In the process, she got it on a fairly nice sized chunk of carpet, on several pieces of clothing, and all over her bedding. I have wasehd the bedding and clothes 4 times, but it still has that sticky feeling to it, and it still smells like diaper cream.

I had to scrub her down with dish soap to get it off her body, but I'm a little afraid to put that in the washing machine; doesn't it bubble more than laundry detergent does? I don't want to live the comedy (horror!) of having bubbles coming out of the washing machine while the machine bounces across the sudsy floor!

Has anyone else had the pleasant experience of washing Desitin out of clothing? Please help! Thanks!

I don't think that I would put dish soap in the washer either. Did you try oxiclean or the laundry version of Fabreeze to get the stuff out of the clothes? Or maybe just spot treat everything with some dishsoap to get the stains out. I haven't run into this yet, but will be interested if anyone has any tried and true methods, because I am sure it is going to happen one of these days...

hand wash with Dawn dish soap. Same with the carpet. Spot wash with dish soap. It's the only thing I've found that works. The smell lingers.

Put the Dawn dishwashing liquid directly on the stains on the clothing and bedding, use an old tooth brush to work it in and then soak in warm water. It is ok to fill your washing machine with warm water and soak the items with the dawn on them. Then rinse them out right in the washer and wash them again in the usual way. Let them soak long enough for the warm water to get cool and you will not have a problem with it getting too sudsy. You may have to apply the dawn a couple of times, but I find the dawn and warm water will remove most grease and food stains, even old ones that have been through the dryer. The smell should eventually wash out, but try a little febreeze on it, it may help.

The carpet is going to be challenging. I would still try dawn and warm water, work it in with a scrub brush, then try blotting it up with old towels or rags. You may have to get it professionally cleaned, unless you have one of those carpet cleaning machines.
