Deserving of the "Bad Mom of the Year Award"

My boys' room is on the second floor and today they woke up from their second nap at the same time. I brought them both down and proceeded to change Aaden's diaper in the living room which is right around the corner from the stairwell. Well, I never thought to gate up the stairs and the living room gate was open so Izak had free range. So up a few stairs Izak decides to go and he must've turned around to come down and well, down he came. I'm not sure what step he was one but all I heard was a THUD and then the screams. I FELT SO BAD! He's got a goose egg on his brow bone and a bruise to boot. He's fine but a good scare for me and DH. Putting up the gate is habit for me so I can't really figure out why I didn't do it this time. Guess even habit can be forgotten in moments of sleep deprivation! My poor boy.... :cry:

 

Don't worry too much. I have those forgetful moments too--with both gates and doors. :hug:

 

We've had a few "thuds" here, too. Try not to beat yourself up over it. It won't be the last time! :hug:

 

Don't beat yourself up about it. It happens to us all. I was in the bathroom today and heard a big thud, still not sure what happened but no one seems worse for wear. :hug:

 

:hug: Momma, you are not a bad Momma! When my DS was still crawling, I must have left the gate open without realizing it and he went down the steps...I did not notice anything until I heard him screaming. He was not hurt but I felt so terrible.

 

I think falling from the stairs is part of the initiation to motherhood. :lol: Please don't be too hard on yourself, alot of us have been there. :hug: :hug: My dd fell down five stairs and I was much more traumatized then she was. :blush:

 

Please don't beat yourself up! Both of my boys have fallen down the stairs, once when we forgot to put the gate up, and the other time when DH and I both thought the other had done it. And Nate has fallen out of his crib not once, but TWICE (!) because we were too slow to lower the crib mattress. :blush:

I consider myself a reasonably attentive parent, but unfortunately these things happen. Sometimes I think my boys are deliberately trying to earn a trip to the ER! :laughing:
