I apparently have a cavity that does not bother me but at my last cleaning they said I needed it filled. My concern is that I dont know if the anesthetics they use are safe for me or if the other things they use are safe while I am pregnant. I am about 18 weeks Pregnant and I can never seem to get an answer from my doctor or his nurses so You ladies are my last resort.

    Thanks

I had one filled around 16 weeks and my OB ok'd novacane (sp?) only. My dentist will usually do the gas but obviously that's not an option while preggo. My dentist actually wouldn't do anything until they got a note from my OB stating what he could or could not do and novacane was something that my OB ok'd but no gas and no x-rays...etc

did you ask your dentist if you actually need anything? I had a cavity and thought i was going to have to have novacain but it turned out that it was just a small one and they didnt have to use anthing at all and it ddint even hurt. I was surprised.

I was always told that having a cavity filled was not a problem. I have always waited until after my chidren were born anyways. I mean, is a few more months really going to make a big difference? I am still going to have to have it filled, now or later, as long as it's not critical.

I had a cavity filled this pregnancy. My doctor said the second trimester was safe as long as they didn't use epinephrine (I believe - I can double-check if you want me to be sure). As far as I understood, this was because it is a vaso constrictor (makes blood vessels tighten to limit blood loss) and could affect blood supply to the babies.

I also had a cavity filled during my twin pregnancy and was told it wasn't a problem. I believe we used novacaine but I'm not positive.
