It seems my teeth have so many problems when I'm pregnant. I just went to the dentist 3 weeks ago to have an old filling in the back replaced. I guess it had been leaking and the tooth had been further damaged but was still able to be taken care of without a root canal.

I've been doing good until the past 5 days and now I'm having to take Tylenol every day because of that same tooth. It usually starts hurting only late at night or in the middle of the night. At first I thought it was because I might be clenching my teeth in my sleep and putting stress on the tooth but I'm wondering if it's more than that now. It can hurt really bad sometimes.

I dread going back to the dentist right now because after being in the chair laid down for only about 40 minutes last time I was light headed and found it kinda hard to breath. If I did need a root canal I know it would take longer than that to do it and I'm worried about possibly passing out or having a hard time breathing. I was hoping I would be able to hold off having more dental work until I have the babies but if I last another 5-6 weeks I don't know if I can handle the pain that long. Besides that, I've been told dental problems can cause premature labor.

    What should I do?

only peridontal disease can cause pre mature labor - not other dental problems. dental work can wait - per the advice of the doctor. if it needs a RCT - then you need to get the root canal tx. done

    Hi
I had a root canal when I was 36 weeks with my twins! It was great to get it done! The doctor was very understanding and kept my chair as high as he could. It was totally worth doing because it got rid of all the pain. I had also heard that dental work could send you into labor but in my case (as much as I wanted it to!) it didn't. I lasted to 39 1/2 weeks! I think you should get whatever you need done, it will make life easier in the long run.

Besides it's easier to get to see the dentist without having to deal with childcare for twins!

    Good Luck!

If you can get it done comfortably and safely sooner rather than later, I'd do it. No reason to be more miserable! I hope it's all better soon!

Thanks everyone. I can't stand the pain anymore so I will be calling the dentist today. I took a half dose of Tylenol last night before going to bed (usally half is all I need) and had to take another 1/2 dose only 2 hours later because the pain was too intense.
