I was brushing my teeth this morning when I realized that pushing on one of my teeth was really sore. I didn't think much of it. I got to work and ate breakfast and it was REALLY sore when I was eating (it's one of the front bottom teeth (left of my right incisor), it continued to get even worse just in the 2 hours since I've been to work. It's a constant soreness now and it's not pleasant. I've never had a toothache or anything. I had one cavity filled when I was 5 and no problems since that time. It was a back tooth.

This is really worrying me though...what it it gets worse? Should I even bother calling the dentist? Is there anything they could even do with me being so pregnant? Or is this something that would have to wait until afterwards?

I had a root canal when I was pregnant. You can have work done. My dentist is most reluctant to do anything in the first trimester. There are some novacains that you shouldn't have, but I think your doc would know that. They couldn't do the crown for the root canal when I was pregnant, though....they put in a temporary filling.

The dentist can work on your teeth after the first trimester. They actually prefer you take care of it as soon as possible to remove any bacteria that could effect the baby. I would call your dentist and at least let them look at it. It may be a sensitivity or something they can fix. Good luck.

My dentist would say to gargle with Listerine.

Gums/teeth are more sensitive while pregnant.

i used to work for a dentist for 14 years. now i am a stay at home mom so i guess i am great for your questions. After the first trimester it is ok to have dental work done. They have novacaine without epinephren in it that they use for people with heart problems high blood pressure and pregnancies. If u need a root canal thats what they will do. is there any swelling by the gum. how long have u had a toothache for. hot or cold sensitivity? can u push on it or touch it. if it hurts to touch obviously don
t keep doing it. i would definately call ur dentist and tell them u r pregnant. they can take an xray but what we used to do is triple drape u with the led apron. u were covered real good lol. one is fine though but we always used extra caution with pregnant patients. the pain killers are just regular tylenol though and i would be carefull if they want to give u antibiotics. ask lots of questions also. when in doubt call your OBGYN also on meds. also when u r pregnant sometimes the gums get inflammed also called pregnancy gingivitis and when they swell the teeth can be real sensitive. there is something they can just paint on the tooth to clog up those nodules that r causing the sensitivity. it may not be anything besides that but call it won't hurt. and it's the best thing to do.

I agree with the pp's advice to call your dentist. It may be something simple that is solely due to pregnancy hormones or it may be something that they may want to address. Here is a link which explains some of the dental issues that coincide with pregnancy.

You can have dental work done when pregnant I had my teeth scaled and my gums planed. I think they just watch what they give you in regards to numbing injestions.

To answer some of your questions...the pain just started this morning. Noticed it when I was brushing my teeth. I haven't had much to drink or eat today, so I'm not sure about sensitivity, but I can't bite into much of anything. There is no gum swelling. It DEFINITELY hurts to touch the tooth itself. Even running my tongue over it very lightly hurts like heck. I took 2 tylenol this morning and the pain is still about the same. UGH...I'm definitely calling the dentist today...I would rather get it looked at or taken care of ASAP if I need to.
