Hi girls, just an update on me...

So, this is what happened. On Monday night I lost what I thought was my mucus plug. I was having some pelvic pressure so I called my doctor but he said he thought it was too early to be my mucus plug. (I was only 31 weeks and 5 days at this point) At 1:45 in the morning I woke up wet and could not tell if my water broke or not, so I changed my clothes and went back to sleep. I then woke up at 4:45 and when I stood up I had a huge gush of water. I took a shower and DH took me to the hospital. I got there and lo and behold my water had broken like my doctor said it might, due to my height. They gave me antibiotics and a steroid shot. Since they don't have a NICU, I was transferred to OSU Medical Center. They were monitoring me and I did not have any regular contractions so they would not let me eat anything until they figured out if I was in active labor or not. Since then I have had regular contractions less than ten minutes apart, steadily getting worse. They won't stop the contractions but they want me to make it until tomorrow at 7:30 am because that is 24 hours after the second steroid shot to strengthen the babies lungs. I'm only 2cm dilated so it looks like I will make it to my C-section time of 11 am tomorrow. (I am 32 weeks tomorrow.) My question is has anyone else had their babies at 32 weeks with the steroid shots and how well did they do after birth? How long did they stay in the NICU? How soon did you get to hold them? What kind of problems did they run into?

Thanks for any input. I will fill everyone in on the story when I get the chance.

I did, I did. Mine were born at 31 weeks 6 days. We had the steroid shots on board and they had no serious respiratory issues at all. I credit that to the steroid shots. I got to see them right after they were cleaned and wrapped in blankets and I was being sewn up from my c-section. Then they went to the NICU along with my DH. I did not hold them until the next day (I was on a mag drip due to pre-e and they were kind of afraid to let me hold them on my own). They were in the NICU for 19 days as feeder/growers. See my siggy for the weight info. Congrats. I am sure you are worried yet excited for this day to come. When you have time come join us on the NICU forum. There is alot of support from former and current NICU parents.

Cant wait to read your birth story. :hug99:

I'm glad you got the steroid shots, they will help. Well I had my two way before 32 weeks and I truly believe the steroid shots made a difference. Good luck tomorrow, can't wait to read the birth story.

Good Luck Tomorrow!! I had 2 round of the steroid shots, and my girls were born at 28 weeks 1 day and I attribute the steroid shots to making a huge difference in their respiratory status. Feel free to join us in the NICU forum if you have any questions or need support. Can't wait to hear your birth story!

I had my boys at 31weeks 5days. I was given the steroid shots but when the boys were born the doctors said it looked like DS 1 got it all and DS 2 didn't get any. DS 2 had to be given surfactant and put on a respirator for the night and then was on C- PAC for a day or so and then some low flow oxygen for a couple of days. DS 1 was never on a respirator and had some low flow oxygen the first night just so he wouldn't tire out. I got to hold DS1 about an hour after giving birth but sadly I didn't get to hold DS 2 for 3 days (still feel a little guilt) They were in the NICU for 3 days and then the SCN for one day less then 2 weeks. So in total 3 weeks and 2 days in the hospital with minimal problems ( temps, eating...)

Good luck! I'm sure your babies will do great and be home with you before you know it.
