    Hello all,

Just wanted to pop back in and ask you all about constant thirst. Is this something that any of you experienced or should I be worried. I dont really see much about dehydration and thirst in the pregnancy books. I drink tons of fluids all day, mostly water, ginger ale and fruit juice but I am always really parched. My nausea has been particularly bad and I'm not really managing to eat much, but the thirst concerns me more than anything else. Is this normal?

    Thanks very much

Constant thirst can be a symptom of gestational diabetes. Maybe ask your ob to test you for it.

I did think about gestational diabetes, but wouldnt 10 wks be a bit early for it to show up? I have never exhibited signs of diabetes before, although there is a family history.

I am 31 weeks tomorrow. I remember being very thirsty at the beginning of the pregnancy. I always told everyone I felt like a camel! Now I don't think I am as thirsty, but I do try to drink a lot of water! Good luck!!!

You don't need a history of diabetes to get gestational diabetes, esp. w/ twins (although it does predispose you to it). Just another fine way our hormones mess everything up.

Keep drinking LOTS of water - I drink at LEAST 100 oz/ day. You need LOTS of water when carrying multiples. And I would try stick to primarily plain H20 to hydrate yourself, esp. if you are the least bit concerned that it might be g/d. The best way to control/avoid it is to eat a preventative diet, which means backing off on sugary products.

Good luck, and I hope you lose the nausea soon. Ick!

I am always thirty when I am preggo! Many of my friends are the same way, so don't get freaked out about it :)

I'm always thirsty too!! If you've been sick make sure you get lots of water. I ended up in the ER severly dehydrated- I couldn't drink even a 1/4 glass of water. My bowels wouldn't move anything for another week afterwards- its a painful process. So don't stop drinking the water.

There's alot of diabetes in my family as well. I got really shaky- esp after waking from naps. Nutritionist and Dr said it was lack of protein. They recommended Carnation Instant Breakfast & Protein Shakes- keep drinking lots of water because they are also constipating.

Your body needs alot of everything right now so do your BEST to get protein down, handful of sunflower seeds, an egg, ensure protein drink, fruit smoothie, veggie burgers, refried beans, spinach salads? I am at 17weeks and still not able to eat Meat- makes me so sick to smell it! I'd love to recommend more.

Take good care of yourself- and has your doctor said anything about Omega 3's? If your at 10 weeks don't worry about the weight. Seriously, you'll lose more before you start to gain.

I know it is hard to keep hydrated but my doctor told me a simple but effective way was to drink jello. I know it sounds weird. But it is good. I have nothing but a craving for water with this pregnancy but the last one I was always in and out of the hospital getting rehydrated. So try the jello it should help for a little bit until your 12 weeks appt.

    hope this helps.

I am trying to get in extra water also by making smoothies of fruit blended with water and eating soups that have a lot of broth. I felt so bad at 10 weeks too, and turned a corner around 12 weeks so hang in there and hopefully the same will happen to you. I can't imagine drinking 100oz+ of water--I know that is what I read as well, but it is hard to fathom!

Thanks ladies for all the good advice and insight. Its just nice to know that I'm not experiencing something unique or that is necessarily indicative of a problem. I will keep chugging the water!!!
