I'm doing an Elmo birthday for my girls 5 weeks from now. I need some CHEAP Elmo party decorations. I am just going to get red plates, napkins, etc. I'm not getting all the Elmo printed stuff...there are too many people coming for that.

So, I need a cute idea for Elmo table decorations. we'll have balloons and stuff, but any other suggestions?

We just did an elmo theme for N & G's 2nd birthday a few weeks ago. I was surprised at how cheap some of the decorations were at Party City (not sure if that's a national chain... but I'm sure all the party stores carry them). I wasn't planning on getting any decorations... just plates, napkins, etc... but I got these cute Elmo's that hang and have dangly arms and legs. I also got an Elmo "Happy Birthday" banner. I went with plain white napkins because I figured we'd go through a million of them and used red hot/cold cups from costco. The "biggest" decoration was the cake... I made an elmo cake and a bunch of smaller Elmo cupcakes.

At this stage, one elmo or twenty would have been the same to my kids. So, I didn't go too crazy with the decorations. I had to stay away from balloons since Gabe tries to pop them and then scares himself... but those are always a pretty inexpensive option.

I just did a Scooby Doo party for the girls and for plates, tablecloths and balloons I just went with the Scooby "colours"--orange, turquoise and green. I had orange and yellow streamers and I hung leftover Scooby invitations from them. I bought some "groovy" loot bags--brightly coloured with flowers and just stuck Scooby stickers on them. I would get Elmo stickers for cups, plates etc., maybe print out your own banner and cut and paste elmo into it from a picture off the net? Put out any elmo dolls/toys you have for decorations...

We just did an Elmo birthday for Joy, but I decided to make it more "Sesame Street" I made the Elmo cake myself, I didn't buy the Elmo cake pan, too cheap... I found at Target a tone of S. Street stuff in their dollar section, and then I srounged around the house and found as many Sesame Street stuff as I could. I placed our stuffed Ernie, Cooki Monster, etc.. around the cake and stuff. It was pretty simple.

For a game we played "journey to Ernie" I hid the Ernie doll in the house and did "hot/cold" until each child found him. They had a good time!
