we're doing a butterfly theme for the girls' 2nd birthday party, but i'm having trouble coming up with ideas for decorations so i thought i'd come to the experts - any suggestions?

A friend of mine did a Butterfly theme for here DD's 2nd birthday, and she made a cupcake cake in the shape of a butterfly that was really cute. She laid all the cupcakes out in the shape of a butterfly then frosted them as if it were one single cake. Does that make sense?

I found it easier, and cheaper just to pick more of a color theme for the majority of the decorations (streamers, balloons etc.), rather than an actual character theme.

Here is a link of all kinds of different butterfly decorations! Or you can always check out Oriental trading company, they have pretty god deal on party supplies.

    Have fun!!

How about butterfly kites? If it's nice weather and you're having the party outside, you can fly them, or tie them to something and let them soar by themselves. If the party is inside, you can hang them from the corners of the room. My guys also really like pinwheels; you could make or buy butterfly wands for them to run around with.

Oriental Trading company has butterfly wings that you can decorate and wear too. :)

Sorry, this isn't really a "decoration" idea, but if you're interested in butterfly wings for your girls and/or guests...I would highly recommend visiting: Halo Heaven. They have really cute wings in all colors and styles and very reasonably priced. Check out all of their other products for more ideas. (It's easy to get carried away!) ;) We just celebrated our DD and DS' 4th birthday and the themes were fairies and superheroes. We bought capes for the superheroes and tutus, wings, and butterfly barrettes for the guests from this website. I was very pleased with our order and would definitely order from them again. I know other TS members have had positive experiences from this company, too. I do believe they sell out quickly sometimes. HTH!
