She has always taken long to settle down but it took her 3 hours to settle down last night. Tonight seems to be on the way to the same, I don't know what to do. I went in once already to check for poop, and there was none. She had Tylenol for teething before bed. She goes to bed for a half hour and then is up for 2-3. I really am worried about her getting enough sleep and I don't know what to do. She's not crying as she doesn't cry much, she is just making lots of noise and being very active in her crib. We have an appointment in the morning tomorrow, so I don't even know what kind of nap she'll be able to have. I hate this!!!!

What is your nap schedule during the day? What time does she get up for the day, and what time is bedtime?

They sleep 6-6. I know it is early but whenever I put them to bed, they still get up then or earlier. And that is when they want to go to sleep. I have tried shifting everything an hour later and it didn't work. We have some stuff going on early next month, maybe when I get them back on schedule after that, I will try again to do 7-7. They get 2 naps a day one at 9ish and one at 1sh and they can stay awake for 3 hours max. She is obviously tired (yawning, rubbing her eyes) at bedtime. She is asleep now finally but keeps waking up.

6-6 for a bedtime seems ok, as does 7-7. If she isn't crying then I would leave her in there, she may drift off again. If you're able (I know your schedule is hectic) you can try putting her down 15 minutes earlier than normal because she really sounds overtired.

Put her to bed for the night at 5:45? Really? You think that would work? Tonight is a little better she has been getting more sleep but she is restless and is up every now and then. I have not gone into her or either of them at all today and will continue to do that. I just wish I knew how to help her sleep better. Guess I can try 15 minutes earlier tomorrow.

It really sounds like something she'll just have to work out for herself. Anything you do to try to help her sleep will probably just reinforce her staying awake. Probably the best thing you can do is just to make it as boring as possible for her to be awake and goofing off at night. When she starts fooling around in the crib, just stay away, don't reward it with attention.

Why oh why aren't babies born with a sleep switch??? It would make our lives so much easier!

Ok, so yesterday I put them down like 10ish minutes early and she did better, not great but better. I know they were both also up in the middle of the night (I never go in then unless there is a leg stuck or something like that) but it must have not been for that long since I don't really remember what time or who it was. Tonight, with dh's resistance (he is not home yet at bedtime during the week) I put them down 5 minutes ago. So we'll see how it goes. It is insane that it is so early but they wake up at 3 on the dot from their afternoon nap and can't really stay awake much longer. I guess all it will take is one day that they need to go to bed later or our weekend away in November and maybe I can tweak this some more. But in anycase, I just hope they get to sleep easily and sleep through the night.
