She is 3 months, on Enfamil AR, very very gassy and just started spitting up little amounts of what looks like cottage cheese. This has been going on all week. She is not much of a spitter uper but we thought she might have a little silent reflux which got a bit better with the AR. Now, the squirming is back and she has dropped frm 6oz. per feed down to a difficult 4oz. The squirming seems more like gas as she passes gas constantly while eating...mylicon doesn't seem to help..Her brother isn't eating much right now either, although he has gotten a little better since starting Zantac. Any thoughts? I really hope that this fighting to get them to eat four ounces is just a phase because it is VERY difficult.

My twins did the same exact thing with the AR. I switched them to soy, with rice cereal.

I went through the same thing with James. I couldn't figure out if it was reflux, gas, general fussiness, a formula intolerance, or what. For a while I was trying to cover all my bases: I did a tummy massage before every feeding to get rid of lingering gas that might be activated by a new feeding, I did hypoallergenic formula ($$), I did soy formula, I switched from powder Enfamil to liquid concentrate, I warmed bottles, I did Ovol drops, we tried baby antacid (renidadine I think it was called), hot water bottle on tummy before and after feedings to relax everything...to be honest I think the only things that helped were: switching to liquid concentrate formula (NO IDEA WHY), perhaps the meds but he didn't take them long, and, most of all, TIME. I think James' system matured as he got older. He's still fussy during feedings sometimes and both of my boys are pukers but he's drinking as much as his brother - 4 or 5 seven or eight ounce bottles a day.

I know it's scary to see your baby eating less than he should. I hope things get better for you soon.

P.S. The cottage cheese puke means its partially digested, I think.

We had the same problem with both babies. It stopped almost completely after we switched to Enfamil AR and put them on reflux medication. The pedi diagnosed the "curds" and squirming as reflux. Reflux will not be cured by switching to soy formula and it can cause damage to the babies digestive system. So it is important that you see your pedi for a proper diagnosis.
