Now I have a question about DD :)

My LOs are one next week and while DS is sitting & standing up, crawling, cruising, etc, DD isnt doing any of these things. She sits happily and spins around on her bottom but is now starting to get a little frustrated at not being able to get where she wants. We always gave her tummy time but she used to cry as she didnt like it. She has rolled from back to tummy but cries. We´ve tried every trick in the book and nada. I know each baby reaches their milestones when they are ready but shouldnt she be at least trying to crawl now!? She can stand alone well - I give her practice at that every day but I have to stay close by as she doesnt know how to sit back down. She did sit down with a bang once and was fine!

I live in Spain and the pedi said that some babies just dont crawl. Im not worried about her but I just wondered if there are any other mums who´ve had this experience and what you other mums think.

    TIA!

Rachel, do you have anything similar to Early Intervention over there? It's a program that evaluates babies/kids for possible delays, and gets them started in therapies if needed. Your ped is correct though, some babies don't crawl. I know your ped is kind of  mellow(?) when it comes to the next steps in anything , but I would ask him again for advice on how to help her a long.

 I'm sorry you have to worry. I think if they offer something like Early Intervention in Spain you could definately take advantage of that. :good: My doctor told me the same thing, that some babies don't crawl, but you can still get an eval. just to put your mind at ease.

My son never crawled. He did not need any early intervention programs. Some babies just don't crawl. Don't worry...

Im not sure if they have EI over here. I can ask the pedi I guess. I had DD standing up today and she cruised a little, it was great! I´ve always suspected that she´d skip the crawling part so maybe she will!

Becky: Haha! I like your choice of word to describe our pedi, that made me  Maybe "behind with the times" would be another phrase I´d use! ;)

Leokon: Thanks, that´s reassured me. Congrats on your twin pregnancy! I see you did IVF, me too! I got lucky on the first try also! :)

Liz: Thanks for your input too :)

To encourage my kids to crawl, I let them get a little frustrated with tummy time and placed their favorite toys "just" out of reach. They started by doing a small army crawl, but once they made the connection that they could get to something, they were off! I agree w/ pp that it would be worth getting an eval done. Hope you can find something like that!

    Rachel,

My boys did not crawl until 1 week before their 1st birthday. Whenever I mentioned my concern to my pedi, she also assured me that crawling is not really a milestone any more. Rolling and crawling are often delayed now that back sleeping is the norm. Different muscles develop. Anyway, I did call EI and had an evaluation done. One of my boys qualified simply because he also rarely rolled over. He hated to roll, hated the feeling of his back leaving the floor - he gets fairly insecure when he isn't "grounded", if that makes sense.

Anyway, once they started crawling they immediately started pulling up. Soon after Finley started cruising and walking behind push toys. Sullivan did not cruise for awhile and started PT - he's had it 3 times - and he is now walking independently as well as Finley does. All in his own time. I doubt the 3 visits from the PT have made him walk - but she really helped calm my concerns and give me ideas.

Call EI if you have it or even a local hospital or therapy clinic to see if they can evaluate a baby for a gross motor delay. It will make you feel better! But, she sounds like she is doing just fine!

Don't worry! My Bryant wasn't crawling until late either. He is 13 mo old and has just started rolling over. We have an appt. with early intervention just to be on the safe side, but I think things are going to be fine. As twin parents I think that we tend to compare our kids to one another, I told my mom when mine were born that they are 2 different people, although they share a lot, they are two different people and we don't need to compare them. Remember, just because one is doing something, doesn't mean the other one should be doing it too.

My DS started crawling at 8 months while my DD started crawling a month ago. She can now stand and has started to take steps. I think they do it when they are ready. My DD still does not crawl as much as my DS but she loves to stand up and can now do so unassisted without holding anything. I know it is so hard not to compare milestones when you have twins. She will catch up. Good Luck!

Hey there. Remember me. My girls are 1 on Tue. Can you believe it? Anyways, I was just as worried about Abby and even made an appt. with Early Intervention, since she wasn't really rolling or anything. Just sitting really well:) Well, I just practiced and practiced with her for about a week and sure enough she started crawling last weekend. I didn't even get to see it. She was with my mom:( It's like once it clicks, there's no stopping them. I just practiced getting her on all fours and rocking. Eventually, she started getting up on all fours by herself and then one day it clicked. She still hasn't perfected it, but she's getting better every day. Ellie started crawling at 8 or 9 months, so it's been hard waiting for Abby to catch up. She still isn't getting into a crawling position or standing position the right way. I might have EI come out anyways, just to see if they have any pointers. Ellie had EI since she was 4 months, so I practiced a lot of the stuff I learned with her. Eventually, all babies will figure out how to crawl or walk. That's what I kept telling myself. I know it's hard when they start getting frustrated, but that's how they learn. They need to be able to reach for things to motivate themselves. Just keep practicing and I'm sure she'll get it soon. Then, you'll be saying to yourself, "Why did I want 2 babies that crawl/walk"? That's what I'm saying:)
