DD has finally learned how to crawl after watching her brother crawl away from her for weeks! But now she won't sleep! She usually falls asleep within 5 mins of being put down, and for her naps sleeps for 1 1/2 hours twice a day. But the past few days have not been good!

She can't fall asleep right away now, and has figured out she can roll all over in her bed, sit up, play, etc. etc. Yesterday it took her over an hour to fall asleep - and then she only slept for about 25 mins. She was miserable in the afternoon, and cried every time her brother looked at her crossways. Then, last night she woke up every 2 hours! She kept sitting up in her sleep, and then it was as if she did not know what to do after that. I would give her a paci, and she would go back to sleep. (although every two hours!)

Has this happened to your LOs after they have learned something new? My DS never did this. He is a great sleeper and can sleep through her crying.

When she is crying, sitting up, should I go in and lay her down? Should I just keep waiting it out, and hope it gets better? I never did CIO, and I am not sure I would do it. I will contemplate it though, if this doesn't get any better!

Thanks so much for any input!

I have heard of babies doing different things similar to this when they reach a new milestone. One of my friends had a daughter who had a blow out diaper every time she reached a milestone.

Yes, once they complete a milestone, they love to practice it ALL.THE.TIME. I bet she will go back to sleeping in a few days.

Yes, I've definitely seen it happen. They reach a new milestone & it just seems to throw the schedule to the wind for a few days. Hopefully it won't last long!

    And :woo: for crawling!

My LOs went through this, especially DD. It happened again when they learned to sit up, roll, crawl & walk (sorry!!!). Dont worry, it will pass and it´s normal for it to happen. At night, I would go to the LO in question, lay him/her down and give them their paci. I wouldnt speak but would sometimes make "ssssh ssssh" noises to calm them. If I said anything, the it would be "it´s OK, it´s OK, mama´s here" (I still sometimes do that). It worked well.

When DS was about 10 months old he started resisting his day naps and it coincided with him learning to crawl. In the end I had to do CIO but only because he wasnt sleeping at all during the day and was pale and irritable as a result. It worked. I never did CIO at nights as they would settle back down so quickly.

Hang in there, it is common for them to have disturbed sleep as a result of reaching a milestone. Just let them know you´re there for them. It will pass.

:yahoo: for crawling! Mine went through this every time they hit a milestone...they really do subscribe to the philosophy that practice makes perfect but it also makes Mommy tired

Thanks so much....we are still working on napping, although sleep last night went much better. She is so darn cute though...she screams and squeals with delight that she can now crawl...sometimes she looks like a little frog! LOL!
