I feel awful, I am in tears as I write this! This has not been my day...DS has a reoccuring case of diaper rash that hasn't really gone away in a few months, we have been to the dr, it gets better for a week then we are right back to using ointments, wash clothes (not wipes) so I am dealing with that today as well.

And, my DD decided to touch the rim around our tire on our car today, well apparently it was hot (I had no idea that tire rims got that hot)! She ended up burning the top of 3 of her fingers - on 2 fingers the burn is about 1/2 the length of her finger and on the 3rd finger it is about 1/4 the length - they are white blisters right now. And the worse part is that she only cried for like 2 seconds, so I didn't even know she was hurt, I didn't realize it until an hour later when I put them in the tub and she cried when her hand hit the water! So I put neosporin on it and gave her some tylenol. Is there anything else I can do...should I take her to the dr tomorrow. I know it was hurting her because she cried a bit at bed time, which she usually doesn't do! Do I have to worry about injections? what should I watch for?
    I feel awful...

Oh no! I have no idea, but I'd call the pedi and speak to the doctor on call about what to do. Poor punkin. Poor mommy!

Where it blistered that fast, I would take her to be seen after I called the doc and said Im taken her in. Burns keep burning even after the initial burn. Blistering means it is a serious burn.

Here is the Mayo Clinics link on burns:

As for the diaper rash, could he have a yeast infection? Ethen has had those since he was 3 weeks old off an on. He got less when we changed his diapers to another brand.

Hope they both feel better sonn!

accident's happen to everyone. My niece touched a hot stove top when she was a toddler and burned her palm and fingers, she went to see a plastic surgeon her's were so bad, she needed special ointment and bandages but it COMPLETELY healed with no scars, kids bodies heal so well. I'd talk to the doctor ASAP to make sure they don't want you to go to the ER to have it looked at, otherwise, don't beat yourself up, she'll be okay....

My daughter burned her arm on a lightbulb when she was about the same age as your daughter. It blistered & looked awful, but the doctor just said polysporin (or neosporin) to keep it from getting infected. So, I would probably get it looked at, but don't worry too much. My daughter doesn't even have a scar!

I'm so sorry! I hope she is feeling better. I had no idea that the rims of tires got hot enough to burn either.

 Wow. So scary. I've never dealt with anything like this, but I hope she is feeling better soon!

Thank you for mentioning this - I had no idea this could happen, but one of my sons likes to touch the tires after we drive and exclaim "hot!" very enthusiastically. I always scold him and try to prevent him from doing it, but I will be especially careful now that I know this story, and now that the temps are sky-rocketing here in AZ.

Thank-you all! I didn't take her in to the dr yet, just tylenol and neosporin, and if it is worse today then I will take her in. But, not sure what the dr can do that I have not already done, I know my DD will not keep any kind of "dressing" on her hand, so that is not even worth trying.

Our temps here in the UAE get very hot. so I think that is why the tire rim metal part got so hot, I think if I was back home in Canada I woulnd't have had to worry about that! ugh!

It sounds like you have had a heck of a day. I would definitely call the on-call dr and see what they say. It seems like she is really uncomfortable and burns do continue to do damage if they are not treated properly (not to scare you). It won't hurt to call. I hope she feels better soon!!!!

As for the diaper rash. My ds has had yeast infections on the outside since he was teeny. The dr said that babies with such sensitive skin as his were prone to this and instead of using regular diaper ointment to use Lotrimin (this is what they use to treat athletes foot). We did have to switch a couple of times because the yeast adapt but it did get better. He has had a flare up since we have been transitioning to milk. You could try one of these over the counter ointments and see if it helps. GL.

Stuff is going to happen and thanks for posting this because I wouldn't have known either. Buy an aloe vera plant to keep around for burns. You break open a leaf and smear the contents on the burn..even sunburn. It works miracles and eases the stinging right away. Don't overwater the plant and you will be successful at keeping it alive.

I just wanted to send your little bug a hug for her burns! I would call the dr if they do not clear up by tomorrow just to be sure.

As far as the rash...DS had one last summer and we did everything. We finally went to a dermatologist and he gave us two creams. One for eczema and one for a yeast infection...that and changing the brand of diaper helped clear it up in 3 days.
