I am a stay at home mom but want the boys now that they are 21 months old..to have somewhere to go for 1 or 2 days per week to have a chance to play with other children and to give myself a chance to get run some errands.

I am trying to decide between a small private family home day care...or those large daycares that are almost like schools if you know what I mean.

Anyone have any pros or cons on each? If you would be willing to share your thoughts it would be helpful

    Thanks!~

My kids go to daycare ( large school like i mean) 2 days/week. I would never never send my kids to somebody house. I just cant trust any strainger watch my kids.

Regular daycares follow all gov regulations (food preparation, teacher child ratio, kid condition to go to school, fire escape plan,..) have inspectors weekly. I dont think private childcares follow all of those regulations.
    Good luck with your decision!

We are a licensed daycare home and the rules and regulations vary from state to state, but in our state, we must follow many of the same rules that the daycare centers have to follow. Sometime the rules are stricter!

We have the food program and have to follow the same guidelines that a center or school have to follow on what to serve, how much, what type of food, etc.....we can be visited at ANY TIME by the FDA (Food and Drug Administration), the food program that we are a part of does surprise visits as well. They come during feeding times, snack times, and other times when food/drinks are not being served.

We are also mandated to follow strict ratios with the children, we have to have and document fire drills and tornado drills (monthly). We must be CPR/AED/First Aid certified. The rep from the state can also visit at ANY TIME, with or without notice. We are mandated reporters, as well as having to pass background checks, and had to be fingerprinted.

We have to have 15 hours of continuing education a year. Many daycare homes are cheaper too. The payment that the parent makes can be filed on their taxes for the Earned Income Tax Credit too.

I would hesitate to send my child to a center. In a home daycare, you would most likely have better luck with a 2-3 day a week schedule, in a center you would probably be paying for a full time spot. The home daycare provider is more flexible in charging parents.
