Daycare gave my DD breast milk?!?!?

I'm completely freaking out right now. I picked the kids up yesterday and their regular teacher was out sick and there was a new lady there. I realized last night when i got home and of course daycare was closed, that the sheet they send home says that my DD was given 1 oz. breast milk with her oatmeal...I DON'T BREASTFEED!!! I am SO hoping that this is a mistake because I LOVE this daycare.
Then on the line right belong it, it says that she had 6 oz. formula but something has been whited out underneath the formula. I'm wondering if she fed her breast milk again and realized her mistake and put in formula.

    So here is my question:
what exactly bad can pass from mom to baby through breast milk? I don't know whose breast milk it is that she got, bt I don't know these people and how do I know that they don't have diseases or something passes to my baby girl.

I am livid right now. Just sitting here ready to go an hour early because I am marching myself in there and going to seriously scream at someone.
    Am I overreacting?

Let us know how it goes! You have every right to be upset. Ask whose milk it was! I'm not sure what can be passed along. I stopped bf my daughter when I was diagnosed with Lyme Disease, but even that's debatable in the medical community if it actually passes. I do not agree with what happened, but just want to remind you that there are wet nurses and have been throughout history.

    I'm so sorry this happened.

HOLY COW...you can pass along many things through breast milk...oh my Gosh I would be freaking out totally...please let us know what they say today....and I would NOT stand for this for a minute.....this is a huge deal.

"A few viruses can pass through breast milk, however. HIV, the virus that causes AIDS, is one of them. Women who are HIV positive should not breast-feed.

A few other illnesses--such as herpes, hepatitis, and beta streptococcus infections--can also be transmitted through breast milk"

here is the link from the site that I just pulled that up from....I would suggest printing some info out and giving it to your daycare.

    http://www.fda.gov/fdac/reprints/breastfed.html

this was straight from the FDA website.

I am sorry that this happened to your daughter....and I would hope and pray that the Mom that is going through pumping for her child is clean and safe and nothing will be passed onto your precious little one.

Let us know how the Daycare responds.

I would be VERY upset, too! That is probably the reason my daycare's rule is that all bottles and food have to be prepared at home and brought in clearly labeled with the child's name and date. It's kind of a pain (I wish I could just take some bags or a jug of breastmilk and some clean bottles), but I completely understand it.

That is pretty scary! and quite a huge mistake on their part! I hope that the teacher was confused and didnt actually give your child someone else's bm! and if she did then I hope and pray that the mother bf'ing is healthy!
I am so sorry and that daycare needs to come up with a way so this never happens again!

Oh I hope so much that she just got names confused when she wrote on the charts...wishful thinking, probably, but I'd rather have her make that mistake than giving your child someone else's BM. Yuck! I would be lived too...keep us posted!

I wouldn't be happy if this happened (because of the carelessness), but I would not torment myself much. Unless the other mother actually is HIV positive or is a chronic drinker/smoker, the odds are that nothing will be passed to your DC from one small bottle of breastmilk. The odds are very much in your favor that the other mother is healthy and that her milk is perfectly safe for your DC to drink. I would go with that thought unless I heard otherwise. My big concern would be how carefully they are monitoring feedings on a regular basis. It's also possible that the worker wrote "breastmilk" even though what your DC actually received was formula. I nursed all my kids and tended to say "milk" about whatever was in a bottle, whether it was milk or formula.

If this actually did happen I am sure the mother whose milk was mistakenly fed to your DC will be equally upset that she went to all that effort to pump her milk and then it wasn't given to her child, so I bet they will double up on the precautions to be sure this doesn't happen again.

I was thinking the same thing. If that was my breastmilk, I would be just as upset!

Like I mentioned before, when I found out about the Lyme I immediately stopped breastfeeding. So, I would bet that if a mother knowingly had something like HIV she would not be breastfeeding. It's more of a what if, if she doesn't know she's carrying something that can be passed on.

So I talked to the daycare and I think everything is ok. The director spoke to the teacher who watched my DD yesterday and she is almost positive that it was a mistake on the sheet. She is almost positive she did not give my child breast milk. They of course apologized repeatedly. They have a system where all breast fed babies have their bottles brought in filled already, so unless they literally gave my child the wrong bottle, its not possible that breast milk was put in my bottle.
Plus only 2 kids in the daycare room are breastfed and one wasn't there yesterday so no breast milk for him either.

I'm still uneasy about it but I feel a bit better.
