Just curious how much everyone pays for daycare. I am thinking about going back to work (due to financial need!) after they are about 14-15 months old. I live in Florida, so if there's anyone in Florida that can comment that would be great. I'm just wondering if it will be worth it...or will I basically just be working to pay for day care...

What do you guys pay per week/per baby? I'm just trying to get a ballpark figure
    thanks!

I am a SAHM but if I did have my kids in daycare it would be $60/day for 3 kids or $300 a week. I live in Iowa.

I pay $380 wk for both. I use a home daycare provider.

I looked at kindercare locally and it was going to be $550 - $630 PER WEEK. I nearly had a stroke. It would not have been worth it.

I also carry our insurance so not going back to work wasn't really an option for us.

I pay about $1800/month, for 3 days at daycare and 2 days with the nanny. But 5 days in daycare would be pretty much exactly the same amount. A FT nanny when they were infants was actually cheaper than daycare.

We live in a suburb of Detroit, Michigan.

I recently asked my friend about this - I am a SAHM but was curious if it would be worth it for me to return to work. Daycare here is about $100 week per child, so $200/week for me.

I am in the Houston, Texas area.

    A school/Montesorri here runs $450-495/wk.
A general daycare (more baby sitting vs. learning oriented) is $373 - 437.
    A nanny without much experience/certifications $352/wk
A well qualified nanny with multiples experience (20 years) + up to date certifications/nursing background (infant CPR, ability to give shots, etc.) $546/wk

The schools drop about $50/wk after 9mo to 12mo depending on the place, and continues to decrease some every year (not counting the inflation increases).

I live and work right outside New Orleans. I pay 266.00/week for both at a daycare center. I get a 10% discount off the second child.

Here in in C'ville, Va I would pay $210 per week per baby. So it would be over $800 a month which is so not worth it to me.
I am looking into home care but I don't know if that would be worth it or not.

Daycare here is $120 per child per week so $240/week. It is cheaper for me just to stay home.

    I'm in San Diego.

INfant care in centers is about $2400 a month (for both)
Nannies for twins run about $15-$18/hour

For centers, not sure when non-infant care starts, but if you can hold out, I would. Infant care is so expensive because they have to have a certain ratio of teachers:infants

I live outside Charlotte NC and the babies are in a church daycare in our smallish town. I pay $207 for both. I believe it is $112/baby and I get a discount on the second. The prices goes down when they turn a year, but not much. We were in a center based place and it was $165/week/baby and the care was not nearly as good. Around me the church based childcare is more affordable and the care is great at most. The price can also reflect snacks and meals, so keep that in mind. Our provider does not provide lunches, but does provide snacks. You will also want to know what kind of snacks/lunches they serve and it's nutritional makeup.

I tried in-home care providers, but I could not find space for two infants. It might be easier the older they get, but most of the places I talked to only take one infant at a time.

    GL with your decision!

When we had a nanny, we paid $600/week plus taxes. We have a home daycare now and infants are $50/day (up to two years old) and then go down to $40/day when they are over two. We live in the metro DC area. My twins will be in school in the mornings and so for their afternoons and an infant full time, we will be paying $490/week to the home daycare. And we have to pay for the school on top of that ($8K/year for the twins).

I'm in Florida and I pay $297 a week while they are in the infant room. It goes down some when they move to the toddler room around 1 yr, but I'm not sure how much. When we checked around about a year ago the price range was from $297 to $350 a week.

We picked this one because it was closest to home, a friend has had her twins there for years, the owner has twins, and they provide formula and baby food. We are just now able to take advantage of the provided formula but even for 3 months it will be a nice bonus. They are more relaxed than some of the "nicer" daycares around here and I found that comforting.

Good luck - it was a tough decision... I started with the phone book and called all and asked hours and cost. Then we asked friends and coworkers. Then we (with infants) had to find the ones that might have 2 slots open. Then we went to visit them all more than once.

I live South of Seattle and from what my sister pays for her one child is about $800 a month, that's because he's potty trained. if he wasn't it would be about $900 a month. Or it's $55 for a daily drop in per child.

All that times two? this is why I had their dad stay home with them, cost of daycare is outragious!

I'm a SAHM now after I had Olivia b/c of the cost of childcare. I used an in-home sitter with the twins. It was $225/week (for them both together). If I would've sent Olivia, it would've been $325/week...around $17,000 a year!)

Goodluck with your decision...BTW, I'm in OH.

I now watch two other kids full-time and I charge them $230/week.

We just completed the whole process of interviewing nannies and touring day/home care centers. Prices ranged from $175 a week per baby (day/home care) to $500 a week for a trained nanny. My 7yro had a nanny for the first two years so this was my preference. Besides, I wasn't too keen on any of the home/day care centers so we settled on a nanny we loved who also agreed to $350 a week for both babies. I am the primary earner in our household so not going back to work is not an option.

    I live in Philadelphia, PA.

We paid $313.50 total per week in Ilinois (non-Chicago area). This is at one of the best day care centers in town. They provide formula and all food as well.

In-home day care runs around $25-35/day per child--about $125-175/week for one and double that for twins.

We live in Mississippi and our daughters go to a church daycare. We pay $165/week total. It is 85 for one and 80 for a second child. I also didn't really have an option of staying home but we like our daycare. Our babies are 2 of the 5 in their room. Most good church daycares are about the same maybe a little more, I know we looked at one with a HUGE waiting list that was going to be around 200/week for both. We found one place for 100/wk for both but it looked a little shoddy. Getting in is usually the hard part here, most places we went to only had room for 5 young infants and had waiting lists so getting two in is difficult. One place basically said we would probably never get in because they had a huge waiting list that people get on as soon as they find out they are pregnant! I'm not sure if it is like that other places, we are not a huge town so it may just be a lack of options.

(Just a note, the cost of living down here isn't is high as some other places so 165-200/week is a pretty good bit.)

Hi! I too carry the insurance for our family (and it's really good insurance-dh is self employeed) so I have to go back to work.
Costs here in NH are about $250-$400 per child per week. The company I work for offers sliding fee scale that I would NEVER be able to afford (they are geared for dr.s in the area) would cost us about $950 PER WEEK! INSANE!

We did find a local mom who wants to quit her job to be home with her kids (she has 6-only 1 is not in school) so she is offering $150 per week total...i had to tell her what the going rate was in the area, I didn't want to take advantage...but she said that's all she'll need...I'm thrilled!

    best of luck to you!

Oh man, sounds like I need to move! We pay $650 a week for both of them. So depending on the # of weeks in the month, it's either $2500-$3200 a month. I live in a area of the country (NJ) where EVERYTHING is expensive.

$150 per child/per week. We will be paying $270 a week because of a 15% discount. I am a teacher and the daycare won't make me pay for school holidays or to reserve their spot over summer vacation like all the in-home care providers want. I also pay $65 week for DS before and after school care and $800 a month for my dd preschool. So we are paying in all $535 a week in childcare.

i live in the houston/ katy area and just went back to work a month ago

we pay the YMCA for before/ after school care for my daughter $385 / month

we pay $180/ week, or $720/ month for both boys to go to a babysitter... we lucked out with this one.. she used to watch my daughter and the cheapest we could find before we contacted her was $140/ week per child

so, that's $1105 a month for childcare... it's a lot, but my DH was able to quit his 2nd job so worth the sacrifice

good luck... it was a tough decision for us, too

For my 2 babies in a home day care it costs $240. She charges $160/week for the first child, the second child is half price. I provide everything until they are 1. Once they turn one she provides breakfast, lunch, and snack.

It would cost more than double that at Kindercare. I think they said $360/week for one infant, they would give me a 10% discount on the second child. We live in Denver metro.

OMG!!! I can't believe how much people pay! It is expensive here too, but not nearly what some of you all are paying! In Maine average cost in a center for an infant is 170 and a 20% discount for the second... Family Child Care is 130.00 w/ 10 % discount on second... I am just starting to take kids in my home for child care and will be charging 110.00 for kids under 12 months and 105 for kids 12 months to 3... With a 20% discount on the second... I am a certified elementary/special education teacher too... Maybe I should be charging more!!!

Don't come to LI! Thats what we were paying when the girls in daycare "full time." Full time is in quotes because that rate was based on a 10 hour day, 5 days a week. The girls were never there 10 hours.. and actually because of our schedules really only needed to be there like 5 hours a day. So it was not financially worth it for us even though the place was AMAZING and the people were fantastic!

Now we have a sitter and pay her $12/hour to watch both girls and DH and I flex our time too. The going rate around here for nannies or sitters (meaning adults, not teens) is between $10-$15/hr.

I will start to pay $1000/month for each baby--so, $2000/month. We live in California, near the beach, and everything here is super expensive! But, I chose to live here (grew up in the area and love it!), so I have to work...even without daycare, I would still need to find a way to make some money, since DH's salary isn't enough.

Our daycare is at my work, so I can drop in whenever I want, and they have wonderful hours--it's probably one of the best and most reasonably priced places in our area...

In MA, at a daycare center, infant care (or under 18 mo) is about $305-350 wkly. Home daycares are less and vary in price.

We're doing a nanny and are probably going to pay her around $450-500 wkly.
