i have tried every sippy cup I can find. And my little ladies seem to care less about them. They will chew on them, play with them & throw them in the floor. But no matter what I put in them or which cup I give them, they don't care. I know we are getting down to the wire. My pedi told me she would recommend taking the bottles away between 12-13 months. HELP!!!

I know mine are a lot younger than yours, but we have tried sippies and Hope loves her sippy and Grace could care less. Hope is actually really good at drinking out of it and Grace does ok. They by no means know how to hold it yet or tip it to get drinks. I hold it for them. Hopefully you can get some good advice. I am looking forward to no more bottles, so I hope my girls will transition quickly to sippies when the time comes.

I would just keep offering them. My girls are just now starting to get the hand of them really - they still throw them and chew on them - but in the past month they've learned to drink from them as well. Just keep them around - make them available and they'll get the hang of it. Good Luck

I wondered the same thing. I have offered sippy cups at meal and snack times since the boys were about 6 1/2 months old...they have shown no interest in drinking from them until this weekend. They would bang them, throw them, chew on them, play with them in their food, but not drink from them. Saturday (and Sunday too) afternoon, both boys drank some water from their cups. On weekends, I keep sippy cups out most of the day with water just to peak their interest. Hopefully, this trend will continue! I say keep offering and hopefully they'll get it. Mine did not like the nubys with the handles attached to the silicone spout...they seem to prefer the nuby with the handles attached (the sip and whatever).

    Edited...spelling.

I started offering sippies around 7 months and Meara got it immediately and Ana just chewed on it. In the last 3 weeks Ana got the hang of it. I tried to show her she needed to suck on it to get anything out (I sucked on it, I squished her cheeks to help her suck on, etc). Finally I took the valve out and gave her some. Yup she got water on her, but then she saw there was something IN there! It still took her some time to figure it out. I offer it three times a day and now they are champs at it. We tried the Nuk, the Nuby, and the Playtex first sippies (I think thats what they are called). We are sticking with Playtex since the girls like them best. GL and try not to stress!

No worries! They will get it, and it will most likely be when you cut down on bottles, and they have to get their liquid from the cups! My babies started out with straw cups. They are a bit easier, as they don't have to tip them up to drink.

My two are the same despite the fact I've been offering it at every meal for the past 2 months. They still chew on it and it usually just ends up being thrown on the floor. I try not to worry about it. Eventually they will get it.

Eventho they are only 7 1/2 months now i have been offering them for a while b/c i want them to be comfortable and able by 1 yr. We tried the Gerber and Avent -both with handles, which they did ok with (might be bc i started w a little juice b4 the ped said not to!) i would hold it and let them drink from it. So i made it my mission for their 8th month to get them really using it so they now get it every day at every meal and usually even when they r playing just so that its there if they decide to pick it up. Right now we are using the Take n Toss cups and they are even holding and tilting it up while sitting up, all by themselves! I think these work -for us anyway-bc they are really light. its worth a shot!

Don't worry! I had the same exact issues with my ds. He finally got it at 12 mos. when I took out the spill proof valve, so that each time he tilted it back he would get some water, after that it didn't take him long to figure it out. Also, I finally just picked one cup, and only offered him that cup. It was the Gerber soft spout. At first I would just fill the cup with a little bit of water ( that way you're only cleaning up a little water and make sure they have on a bib). A few weeks after I took out the valve, I put it back in, and he's been drinking ever since. We were done with bottles at 13 mos. Good luck! It will happen!

The only ones my girls can use more than for a sip or so is a straw sippy. They love them! And they actually only figured them out this past week :p But now that they have, they're doing great.

We use the Nuby ones. The only trouble with these is they're so large and no handles.

So a friend showed me hers: Nuby straw sippies with handles!

My girls kept trying to steal her daughters, oops! I looked all over and couldn't find any in stores so I finally just ordered a couple on line. Hopefully the girls will continue to like them!

I agree with pp... the Nuby straw sippies with handles are great. I tried three our four different kinds and these were the only ones my guys could figure out. We bought ours at Target.
