    Hello ladies,
I am 20 weeks pregnant with identical girls.Today we had US and US technician saw that baby B has a cyst on her brain.Everything else is great, they are growing great, heartbeat, and the rest of the measurement are good.Do you have experience with this issue. We are very scared and I am crying.
I Monday I have level II US,so we will know more.
Today they told us that is very common, but still we are very, very concerned.
    Help me,
    Vesna

I dont have any experience with this but I do know that a cyst on the brain is common and usually disapears by the time the baby is born. Hopefully someone else can give you more info that that. Try not to stress to much, I know easier said then done. Thinking of you.

Like Slipper said, although it's easier said than done, try not to worry too much - cysts seem to be fairly common and from what I have read, 1 in 100 (1%) babies have them and almost all of them disappear by third trimester - one report even said that some adults have them also with no impact on brain functioning (they are not cancerous and do not affect personality or thinking). It seems to be common and disappear as quickly as they come.

And especially no cause to worry too much as everything else seems to be fine with the babies with their growth, etc.

Take care of yourself and try not to stress too much as that is not good for babies. Do something special for yourself, maybe a manicure/pedicure, relaxation...

Thinking of you ....

My twins and this baby all had/have cysts on their brains. The first pregnancy I was so worried and cried for days and did the worst thing possible... googled it. :faint: Definitely stay away from the google. :hush: If it's the only "thing" they found chances are they will go away on their own by 30ish weeks. It did for my two and I've assumed it did for this baby as well. :good: My two are five years old and they are very healthy and happy... so the cysts did not harm them at all. :good:

Yes, my second trimester ultrasounds showed that my kiddos both had the choroid plexus cyst, and along with the abnormal results from genetic screening (but we decided against the amnio even though the counselor strongly recommended it) all pointed to trisomy 18. But guess what? My boys are healthy, (usually) happy, and "neuro-typical" toddlers. I think the doctors are legally bound to just tell you everything they see even though the cysts typically resolve on their own by the time you are well into the third trimester. Also, the same type of CPS was also detected on the u/s during my current pregnancy, but I haven't had any ultrasounds since the 20 week one to find out if it's still there or not this time around.

Unfortunately, the great part about ultrasounds is that you can "see" so much more of the baby(ies) before they are officially born, but -- on the other hand -- our mothers' and grandmothers' generation never would have had to worry about cysts during their pregnancies because they would never have known about it in the first place.

Vesna: I don't have any experience with this but definately with other worries. It is so scary to find anything that might seem potentially harmful. I just wanted to send you hugs and tell you as the others have said, try not to worry. Everything will work out ok.

    Keep us posted.

 I'm sorry you are worrying about this. I am so glad Liz (TwinLove) chimed in because she is the first person I thought of. :) As you can see she can give you some hope. And I agree definitely don't google it, I know it is hard not to.

I hope you dont spend too much time worrying about this, easier said then done, I know.
So far it seems others that had u/s's that showed cysts eventually went away, I am sure this will be the same for your baby.
    Keep us posted!!

We are going through this right now. At our 20 week ultrasound we found that baby A had a cyst on his brain. Our doctor informed us that our baby had no other symptoms of trisomy 18 and that he was not concerned. Try not to worry too much, but I know it is hard. We have our follow up ultrasound next week and are hoping the cyst will be gone. I have talked to many people who's children had the same thing and their babies came out perfectly normal and healthy. Thinking of you. :grouphug:

I have known a variety of people whose babies have had cysts on their brains during the pregnancy, especially around the 16-24 week period. One friend's OB explained to her that they believe that cysts might just be a normal part of brain development in fetuses but it was not known before because the technology was not as clear or as detailed as it is now. Everyone I've ever known whose baby had a cyst on their brain welcomed healthy babies into their family at the birth - none of the babies had cysts when they were born. Try not to worry, no matter how impossible that might feel.

Thank you ladies ,your support is such a blessing for us.
Yesterday I was in shock especially because of trisomy 18 that scared me.
I talked to my ultra sound technician this morning ,and she said that she checked heart, head (normal shape),bladder, hands, legs, abdomen and everything looking normal and fine.
In Monday I have level II US,I am praying that everything will be fine.I just don't want to hear about markers :).
Do you know what they measure in level II US?
    Love u girls
    Thank you

This is a follow up from your last scan - they will just do a more thorough u/s with a more experienced technician or a specialist so it will most likely be a longer and more detailed u/s and they will measure everything. We don't have them here or if we do we don't call them that. If we did, I guess you could say it's the same u/s I have had every two weeks for the least three months because of my babies sharing a placenta.

My friend's baby showed 6 cysts at her 20 week ultrasound. This was the only "marker" they found....the good news - they all disappeared!!! He was born in April and is a very strong, healthy, cute little boy! Please don't worry! If everything else looks good, I think the baby should be just fine! Hugs to you!

My son had cysts as well (can't remember now how many but there was more than one) so I know how worried you are  . He also had dilated kidneys so we had a couple of follow-up ultrasounds after our 20 week one. By 30 something weeks the cysts were gone and only one kidney was still slightly dilated so we were told to "wait and see". He was born a very healthy little boy who just turned 4 yesterday :). Like many other people said they are common and most often disappear before delivery. Please try not to worry...I hope you get some good news at your next US :).

    My dearest friends,
We just came from level II US,and everything looks perfect except cyst.Dr said that babies are healthy and normal, and he didn't suggest amnio. He said that cyst are very common, and he said they will gone for couple of weeks. We are happy that level II US didn't show any other marker.Babies are very active:).
Your support is amazing :grouphug: ,thank you very much.
    Warmly,
    Vesna

I am so glad to hear everything else seems fine. My boy had the enlarged kidneys issue mentioned above also, but at 36 weeks that diseapeared and he's fine as well, crawling all over the place and trying to take his first steps.
