We ordered the "Baby Signing Time" DVD's-- the baby series associated with the kids' "Signing Time" series. They are great. I know the APA says no TV before 2, but these are helping all of us to learn sign language, and they are the only TV my boys really watch.

Anyway... Jacob is my language-oriented kid. He doesn't sign yet, but he's getting close-- he smiles and shows recognition of many signs. He also loves the songs from the DVD (we sing them all the time). Today, I started signing and singing one of the tunes, "More, More, More" and Jacob's squealed with delight as he spun his head away from me.... straight toward the TV!!!! In the next hour, he did the same thing about 6 more times, each time I sang the song. I didn't realize how strong the association was between the songs and the TV!

Too funny. I want to do sign with mine, but I haven't really started.I tried at about 7 mo but wasn't very consistent. I know I should just try. How do you do it for daily objects. Or I should say how did you start, what did you do to remember?

Too funny! We're cancelling the TV for the summer and just in time - C&C will come downstairs in the morning and go right to the TV to turn it on!

BTW - I love the names of your boys!

We don't do a lot of signs... but I always sign & sign the Baby Signing Time song about eating, "It's time to eat.... eat, what a treat!..." (corny, yes-- but memorable) whenever I am putting them in their high chairs. After several months of it, they now get excited. When their food is all gone, I sing the "More" song and make the "more" sign whenever I ask if they want more. We also sign for milk, some animals, "all done", cracker, water, bath, bed/sleep, love, mommy, grandma/grandpa, etc. They smile and act like they might understand some of them... but it's not an instant thing. I always say the word and repeat the word/sign combo many times when I have the time to do it. I think it will be so amazingly fun and rewarding when they start signing!

Those are great dvd's. We just got the one for older kids and I learned in the intro that her daughter was born deaf.

Knowing some basic signs has been such a great way for my boys to express themselves to me. DH was not into it when I got it for the boys last year. He just could not believe that they would be able to do it. Now though, he is a huge advocate!

    How cute is that!

Now you have me curious about the baby DVD's -- we used the regular Signing Time series with Nadia from the time she was 8 months old, and she loved it -- in fact, she still likes them at age 4. We have nine of them, I think.

But the baby series sounds like it may have more songs? I may have to check it out....I've always loved the songs that they come up with. And, my little ones don't seem that captivated by the regular series just yet.

It is really, really cool when they start signing. Nadia didn't start until 13 months, but she picked it up very quickly after that -- by 18 months, she was signing whole sentences (which was good because she talked very late).

DH and I still sign to each other....
