For anyone who's kids have curly hair, did they always have curly hair? Or was it straight when they were born and then at some point switch over to curly? At what age did it change? If you have identical twins, did their hair switch to curly at the same time?

I just got my curly boys hair cut for the first time but they were born with dark brown straight hair ( I have blonde hair, DH has brown with red highlights). Their hair fell out at about 4 months old and grew in blonde, actually they looked bald until about 8 months or so. Their hair was very short to their head and started growing after they turned a year old about two months later the curls started in the back and I let it grow until about two weeks ago, it was almost to their shoulders and curly. It looks as though their hair may grow back wavy or curly but I'm not sure yet. I have fraternal twins and their hair grew the exact same way at the exact same time and their hair goes to opposite sides.

Emilie's hair is curly and it didn't look curly until it started to grow past her shoulders and that was about a year ago.

I have frats. Rachel's hair is curly and got that way around 11 months if I remember correctly. Before that it was straight. Rebekah's hair flips up in the back and that's about it. It does it on its own and I don't make it do it. Her hair also was straight before it grew long enough to flip.

My daughter was born with straight hair & it turned curly around 8 mths of age. Now she has a true "Annie' look...thick red curly hair! Her curles are kind of tight so it hasnt reached her shoulders yet.

I have another "Annie" over here as well. Rachel's hair didn't start to curl until she was around 1 1/2 years old and now it just gets more curly as time goes on and it grows longer. Danielle's hair probably started getting curly around a year, but she has much more hair and it's longer then Rachel's. Hers isn't the tight curls that Rachel has, but it seems to continue to get curlier over time. Both DH and I have wavy/curly hair so it was natural for the girls to have curly hair. With Natalie, I can see that her baby hair goes in different directions which makes me believe that she will also have curly hair as she gets older.

My boys had straight hair pretty much the whole first year but towards the end of that year, I began to see the potential for them to get curly hair. Around 16 months, one of my sons got really curly hair and around 18 months, my other son went from straight to curly. It really was amazing to me. They now have the tightest ringlet curls ever. My boys are fraternal.

Ainsley always had curly hair. She didn't have much in the beginning, but I could see that it was coming in curly.

They didn't have a ton of hair at birth, but what they did have you could tell was going to be curly. I have naturally curly hair and DH has thick, wavy hair, so we figured our kids would have curls, and they both do.

My girls were born with plenty of dark brown hair that curled a little when it was wet, but the time they were a few months old I knew for sure they would have curls... and boy do they ever! Now that it is longer, it curls in ringlets!

All three of mine(Older DD and twins) were born with curls (yup even though the twins were very premature). MY Older DD though lost her curls after getting her hair cut. Her hair is pretty much poker straight now. The twins have lots of curls, but my DS has hair similar to her older sister and I am sure once he has a proper haircut his hair would be pretty much straight. Younger DD though seems will keep her curls, but only time will tell.

My ID boys were born with straight dark hair. They both started turning blond and getting curls in the back around 10 months.

Mine had very little hair until after their first birthday. Just in the last year has it really started to grow, and it has come in curly.

I think it was close to 2 when my daughter's hair turned curley.. but part of the reason I didn't see it sooner was because her hair took a while to grown in. Once I got it cut, they put in some layers and it just curled up like crazy.. It is so cute!! Yay for curls!

I had wavy hair until I hit puberty, then it turned into ringlets. When I was pregnant, I lost the ringlets and it went wavy again. Weird hormonal thing I guess. So don't give up you straight hair parents, it may yet happen...if you can imagine your wee ones that old :)

Wow, me too! I've never met anyone else with the same thing. I've always had pretty curly hair, but between puberty and pregnancy it was wild, unmanageable, uncombable ringlets. Now it's back to curly again. I don't know if it'll change back when I finally finish weaning. My sister's hair did the same with each of her 7 pregnancies, each time her hair ended up a little straighter until it's now completely straight! My hairdresser didn't believe me about my sister until she saw the changes in my hair.

Maia was born with a lot of straight spikey hair. At around a year it gradually turned curly and now it's in gentle ringlets.

Tal didn't have much hair to begin with, but it gradually grew in straight. When she was about 9 months old she had a cold, so we bought a humidifier for their room (we live in a dry desert climate). The first night we used it, Tal went to bed with straight hair and woke up with curls! It's been curly ever since. She has the tightest ringlets, it curls so much that her hair looks short and people often ask us why we cut one girls hair but not the other.

I thought for sure my older DD would have straight hair -- it was thick and straight until her first birthday, and then we started seeing some curls. Now, it's one big mop of frizzy, curly hair.

Here she is in a first birthday portrait:

    Nadia, age 1

And, a little more than a year later:

    Nadia, age 2

I still can't get over her hair! And, I can't wait to see what my little ones will look like. :) They both have some potential for curl, Karina more than Kevan, but we'll see...

My girls were baldies FOREVER, since their hair has gotten longer (around 18 months) it has curled like crazy. There is still some straight strands in their though. I love the curls. My husband had the same exact hair as a child.

the girls hair was nappy at birth in texture. the closest i can describe it is like african hair. as it got longer it curled and got softer.

My girls were born with curly hair. They have the "annie" look too, with those perfect ringlets. I wish my hair was that curly!

Both of mine had straight hair until it really started to grow and whoa! is it curly now! Super curly! In the back where their heads rub the bed, stroller,etc..it is very nappy now, but was silky at birth.... :unknw:
