Our little ones have a pretty consistent nap schedule. It has evolved over the last few weeks and have almost consistently napped at 9 and 1 with a possible short nap around 4/5pm. I thank God they nap well but night time sleep is such a different story! Does anyone have little ones who actually sleep well during the day but wake a lot during the night? I'm really curious about this because from what I've read (i.e. Weissbluth's book) you need to establish good night sleep before a consistent nap schedule evolves. It appears as if our little ones skipped over the good night sleep part and jumped straight to napping decently well :) THANKS!

Right there with you, I have (for the most part) always had great nappers but mine still wake 2-3 times from 7pm-7am

Mine are pretty good nappers (not totally consistent, but pretty good) and we still don't have great night sleep at 10 months, too. I keep waiting...

Mine are pretty good at naps too (well only if Im home wiht them, they sleep horrible for anyone else) yet they are really bad night sleepers too at 11 months

We worked on the nighttime sleep first, and the naps fell into place almost immediately.

Same here. Do you think there is a particular reason why they are waking? Do they cry for a long time? Do you go in there or stay out? Emma still wakes a couple of times before 10 p.m. (whines/fusses for a minute or so, nothing major). I go in to put her pacifier back in up until 8 p.m. because it's staying lighter later, but I don't say a word, I pop it in, maybe pat her tummy and "shush" her and then I leave. I made a rule to not go in there unless she sounds very distressed.

Hi....we recently had to drop the last 4-5pm cat nap as they suddenly didn't want to go to bed until 9pm when they consistently go to bed at 7pm. Try dropping that last nap and see what happens...yes they will be crabby at first but trust me...mine have been sleeping thru the night since they dropped it!

Mine have always been pretty good nappers. Night time was a whole different story - they woke up at least 1-2 times per night each until 10 months. Around 10 months things began to change and one slept through then a week later the other followed. They did it on their own. At almost 12 months, they sleep 7p to 7a without a peep.

I think the books are a good guide but your children don't read those books. I hope you get some sleep soon. You're not alone.

I think they are still pretty hungry at least for some of their wakings. They nurse and nurse well at night, which is why I don't mind feeding them, but not 5 or 6 times. I don't mind getting up 2 or 3 times, that's doable for me and I like it that they nurse really well for some of the feedings. With regards to crying...I don't go in there if they are just fussing/talking. Sometimes our dd will fuss for 40 minutes after putting her down for the night and will fall asleep on her own. When they cry we go in. It all depends. Sometimes we go in right away or give them 5-15 minutes, depending on their cry and the type of night we've had. Nine out of 10 times, they will not go back to sleep if they are crying, which is why I nurse them. My dh has tried walking around with them, rocking, the sling, etc... they will not really relax with him or go back to sleep unless he hands them to me to nurse. I'm sure they'll grow out of it; it's not like they'll be nursing at night when they're in college :)
