Cure for the short nap?

Well, we've been struggling with the short (30 min) nap at my house for a while. I was at my wits end (they were only "happy" for about 20 min after they woke up -- so they were, IMO, not getting enough sleep) -- but they would NOT go back to sleep after the 30 min.

Well, I was lamenting to my mom about this last week, and she said -- put them on their stomachs! -- ((gasp!!))-- being of the "Back to sleep" generation, I was horrifed at the thought....but yesterday was AWFUL!!! by nap number 3 (only around 11am) -- they were a scream overtried wreck!! So today i bit the bullet, and put them on their tummies for naps

They STILL wake after 30 minutes -- HOWEVER, with only about 15 seconds of back patting and SHH-ing....the wnet right back to sleep for over and hour!!!!!!!!! This worked for both naps today (we're currently on nap 3) I REALLY hope this isn't a fluke.

Ofcourse I'm totally paraniod - and check on them ever 5 minutes to make sure they are breathing....but so far so good!!!

Our babies are belly sleepers as well, it's the only way that they can sleep. I checked every 5 minutes in the beginning too, but they have great head and trunk control, and often will flip onto their backs when the wake up.

I'm glad that they are finally getting some sleep.

I went through the same thing at about 3.5 mos. I was going crazy - Natalie would not nap hardly at all and I was totally exhausted. My Mom told me the same thing - she said "just try it - their neck control is good" and low and behold - they napped SO much better. I didn't swaddle them, just put them on their little tummies and covered them with receiving blanket - and the slept great. I checked on them crazy at first - but then I got more and more confident - I started putting them to sleep at night like that too - they slept so much better. So - sometimes Grandma or in my case Nana - knows best! Ain't sleep grand?

I've never thought of it because my babies hate tummy time. Do you think it's the same thing? Do yours love tummy time?

Mine aren't huge fans, but don't mind it. It's funny b/c at night they roll easily belly to back and then cry to be flipped back on their bellies but during the day, when they are done with tummy time they won't roll over, just cry until I move them, silly babies.

Mine used to HATE tummy time (totally FREAKED everytime) -- but since they rolled belly to back -- they don't LIKE it -- but it isn't an imediate cry-fest anymore. When i put the boys on their tummy to sleep -- there WAS some "vigorous" crying the first time -- I just patted their back, and shhh-ed in their ear -- it really only lasted a few (maybe 3 on and off) minutes -- and then they let out a sigh and when to sleep! (heck - it was less fussing then putting them to sleep normally!

When mine learned to roll onto their bellies, they started taking nice long naps... Then once the novelty wore off, we were back to mostly 45 min naps! I hope that yours keep on giving you those nice long naps!

Mine sleep on their bellies and usually are great sleepers. I think you would be surprised at how many people do after the initial few months. I am been surprised when i have talked to people.
