Yesterday when I ran out of juice (which I usually half with water) I quickly gave the boys some crystal light. THEY LOVED IT! Does anyone give it to their LOs? I know it's sweetened with Splenda and I'm cautious about giving it to them because of this, but if they like this better, do you think it's healthier in the long run than juice which can give cavities, etc?

    Opinions please!

I am terribly allergic to Splenda, so I don't give it to my kids. Actually, I try not to give them any artificial sweeteners, because I don't know for sure the long-term effects of those.

My SIL used to give her son Splenda all the time, though, and he's 9 and seems to be doing just fine.

Once in a while we give them sips but I would not let them drink it over regular juice. No need to put the fake stuff in their systems. They actually need a certain amount of sugar in their diet. If you are worried about the amount of sugar they take in from drinking juice then I would either water down the juice or buy the less sugar juices. I just don't think there is enough evidence yet to say that it is totally safe to drink on a regular basis. But, that's JMO and you have to do what you feel is right. You might want to call the ped and see what they say about it.

I let them have sips of it, but I wouldn't give it to them longterm. I am reluctant to give them artificial sweeteners.

No, I drink it myself but still treat Splenda like all other artificial sweetners, I don't really trust it in their little bodies

I agree w/ PP. I will drink it since I have a choice in the matter- but I dont know about artificial sweetners and growing kids...my PEDI says NO. that said I have done Splenda only on accdient a few times when I picked up the 'wrong' item at the store (puddings, juice, etc). I try not to and absolutely NO aspartamine.

I have yet to find any crystal light that is sweetened with splenda, all that I have seen up here has aspartame.

I give it to mine quite often. My kids are big milk drinkers and do not like juice but they LOVE Crystal Light Lemonade and Fruit Punch. I usually make a couple of bottles and give it to them with lunch.

Mine get all the sugar they need naturally from fruits. Anything processed usually has a lot of sugars in it too.

All the Crystal light I have is aspartame too... and I was told by an industrial chemist that aspartame metabolizes into a neuro-toxin so I stay far away from it for my kids...

BUT Splenda I have done also by accident. It just doesn't 'feel' right ya know?

No way. All those artificial sweeteners (including Splenda) cause cancer.

Being diabetic, I have little choice what goes in my drinks to sweeten them. They drink what Mommy drinks mostly. They drink tons more milk than I can, or it kills my sugars.

My older son is 11 and has been drinking what I do for most of his life, and he's doing great.

I'm in the same situation - mine get mostly milk and watered down juice but when mommy has a diet soda or a bottle of Fruit2O guess what - they get some too...

I prefer that my kids not consume chemicals, so no soda or diet drinks for them.

They can have water with a splash of juice, milk, or water.

For a special treat we make them milkshakes, smoothies, or straight juice.

I"m a Crystal Lite Iced Tea junkie ;) But the kids only drink milk and water. Occassionally they have juice when we're at a party.
