For a while there when we would put them down to sleep they would go right to sleep...
now they are crying themselves to sleep..sometimes it's for a little while and sometimes a minute or two.
Do yours just go right to sleep? If so how long does it take to get there?? This breaks my heart every night..I feel like I'm doing something wrong

Emma started doing this just after a year. I was so confused why she would start again and if I would go in there to soothe her, she would be fine. I chalked it up to separation anxiety. For us it was a phase that passed. :hug99:

My Benny will do this from time to time. I go back in and give an extra snuggle and kiss and he's generally fine after that.

Allison goes right down and never cries, Sarah usually cries at some point before she falls off to sleep. Allison loves to go to bed, Sarah can't stand to miss the action (not that there is a whole lot that goes on after they go to sleep). There are times when Sarah just cries and cries until she falls asleep. She will cry because her feet aren't covered or because she dropped a toy outside of the crib (on purpose no doubt). I'll cover her and give her the toy, but still she cries. I don't know how Allison can sleep through it. It's just Sarah's personality I think, because there is never anything wrong when I check on her, she just doesn't want to go to bed. So, yes, I still have one that cries her self to sleep at least two or more times per week.

Reading this post made me feel better. Exact same situation here. Sammy goes to sleep right away, and Charlie cries herself to sleep at least once a week. We go through phases where she doesn't at all for 2 weeks and then have a week straight of it and then on & off for a week and then nothing, and repeat. I feel bad, I go back in, hug her, cuddle her, reposition the blankets, etc. Everything is always fine, she just wants "Mama"

There are times mine do this, I just assume it's their way of winding down. But most of the times they just lay up there and chat (to themselves they are in their own rooms) before falling asleep.

Mine were OK at that age, but over the past 6 months we've definitely gone through phases of them crying at bedtime. (They're doing it right now in fact.) Partly it's the discovery that they can keep us from leaving the room by asking for more hugs & kisses. We give in to it for awhile, then leave, then they cry so we go back in. For a couple of days it seems to help -- but then we're going in there 2 and 3 times. After several days of that, we have to just let them cry again. I hate to do it, but otherwise it just escalates until we're spending 20 minutes doing hugs, kisses, and other additions to the bedtime routine, and they are never satisfied.
