Crying during bottle

Both of my boys (who are now 7 weeks old) will cry at times while drinking their bottle? It seems like they get a pain in their stomach and then sometimes they pass some gas out of their bottoms! Why is it that drinking causes them to have stomach pains? Has anyone else experienced this and how can I make it better? They have both been diagnosed with reflux and have been on Axid for about a week and a half now.

    Thanks!

The crying is probably from the pain of the reflux. If they have been on meds for a week and a half for it are you seeing any difference? If not, you might give your Dr. a call and request something else. Also are they spitting up with it? If so, maybe some cereal to thicken the feed might help (that is if you have ok'ed it through your ped). I also added Myelicon drops for gas to their bottles periodically to help with the gas.

I hated dealing with reflux. It does get better, just hang in there.

I feel for you so much. At 8 weeks my boys were diagnosed with reflux and were put on Prevacid. I noticed within a few short days a huge improvment. I would call your ped tomorrow and maybe they can try a different med. I have seen here that sometimes, a certain medicine may not work and a second one is needed.

mine still do that sometimes, i put gas drops in about every bottle, sometimes putting them on their tummys helps too.

I think you should definitely call your Ped. and have them try a new medication. My boys were put on Axid when they were diagnosed with reflux at 8wks. old. Axid did not help at all. It finally took Zantac and Prevacid before my boys felt any relief. Unfortunately, with reflux, it may take a couple of medication changes to figure out which medication works best for your babies. I hope your boys feel better soon!! :)

My girls did this too. They were on reflux meds but I used Mylicon A LOT to help with the gas. Sometimes I would stop the bottle and try and get some real good burps out of them. :hug99: I know this is hard.

I could have written your post when Noah and Jake were younger. After lots of trials and errors, we ended up on Zantac, switched to Similac Alimentum formula (only temporarily because it is soooo expensive), and Dr. Brown's bottles. This combination saved my husband's and my sanity.

I hope you find the right combo for you. I would definitely try the Dr. Brown's bottles if you haven't already.

Good luck and lots of hugs to you :hug99:

Our girls were on Zantac and we put mylicon drops in all their bottles for a long time (probably until they were 4 1/2 months). We also stopped frequently and burped them. Hope you find the right combo that works for you. GL! -Leighann

I agree with Rachel. If you don't see any improvement, I would call your ped. :hug99:

Could be the reflux - or gas pains? Have you tried giving them mylicon a few minutes before the bottle? It works pretty quickly for my boys so i pretty much always give them myl just before a bottle. The only reason i don't add the myl to the bottle is that I never know if they're going to finish the bottle . . .
