My boy Benny has crossed eyes. His ped says that the problem should fix itself. So, I just wondered if anyone else had a baby with crossed eyes, and did the problem fix naturally, or did it require intervention?
    Thanks!

I have a niece and nephew who had to wear an eye patch. Here is one place the specialist differ greatly from the pedi. The specialist say that if you catch it before 6/9 mo it is quick and easy to solve. So don't wait too long. Most pedis don't refer until a year or more then it requires more and often surgrey. If you can solve before 6/9 mo then in a week or 2 it is solved. So maybe not yet, but don't wait too long.

Are his eyes crossed ALL the time? My Aiden had a 'wandering' eye that I'd notice every now & again, but it was never consistent. Our Ped said that if it wasn't GONE by 3 mos, he wanted him seen by a Pediatric eye doc. We didn't notice it, but now I'm catching glimpses of it now & again, so I plan to take him in soon.

There's a free program that I found on a thread on here....Infantsee maybe? I'd have to look back. It's for 6 mos & up though.

If his eyes don't correct themselves soon, I'd definitely have it looked in to. My babies have weak eye muscles, so it may just be that.

    Good luck!

Personally, i would get them checked. If you have read any of my posts or know anything about my boys, I am a "stickler" on eye exams. My boys were born with Retinoblastoma (a rare childhood eye cancer). check out the sight b/c it gives signs of it as well. I"m not saying that that's what it sounds like but you never know until you get it looked at. My son used to turn his head to see me and i ddint think anything of it until he was diagnosed. Then we realized that he was turnign his head on purpose to see better b/c of the tumor. Please get it checked out. It cant hurt anything....

My DD's eyes cross as well. My Pedi said if it does not correct itself within 10 weeks I should have it looked into. Sometimes the baby will use one eye more than the other. The other eye becomes "lazy" because of the fact that they are not using that eye as much as the other, they can actually lose the vision in that eye. If it is not taken care of, it can become permanent.

I am glad that the mom posted about the rare eye cancer though. It is something else to think about if her eye does not "un" cross on its own soon.

I am not sure if my boys had crossed eyes, but they definitely had some issues where they were having issues focusing on stuff. They eventually outgrew it maybe by 6 months. We had been and still are followed by a Ped Opth for prematurity and well eye checks.

Get it checked. Go see an Infantsee doctor if they see anything they will send you to a specialist.

http://www.aoa.org/x5428.xml?filter=IS to search for doctors of the Infantsee program

My Ben has strabismus I was so worried around I took some photos during Christmas time and we ad some pretty odd photos with one eye pupil white and other red so I took them to the family doctor he looked in his eyes said not to worry and at the time I did not think anything about the crossed eye cause I thought Ben would outgrow it, and our family doctor said not to worry till after 6 months well I still did not feel right so I found the infantsee program found a doctor and went to see her and she said she did not see anything with Mitch's eyes but Ben needed to see a specialist. So The white pupil was nothing it was the light and flash and the crossed eye looking somewhere else. But he he is very far sighted with Strabismus. We had to get him glasses which seem to help when the glasses are on but his eyes bounce right back when they off, he will be having surgery we will be scueduling that when he goes back to see the specialist so probably in about 2 months he will have surgery. Mitch is more far sighted then Ben but no strabismus. We noticed the crossed eye about 3 months - 1 month adjusted age. They are 7 months now - 5 adjusted age.
Honestly I would not listen to your doctor I would go get it checked, if we listened to our doctor we would just be starting this whole process when we could have had a 3 month jump on it all like we did. It takes time to get into see specialist we had to wait almost a month just to see him. Who knows is we waited he could have lost some of his sight cause with strabismus one eye will shut off so they do not see double all the time.

Good luck I hope nothing is wrong.

I thought I was seeing some intermittent crossing of eyes with my girls early on. I can't remember if it was at their 2 mo or 4 mo visit that I mentioned it to the pedi (probably 4 mo now that I think about it.)

We talked about it, I wasn't sure if I was just being hypersensitive to it (I had surgery at age 5 to correct a crossed eye) or if there was something really there. I still wasn't sure at their 9 mo appt and he listened to me and told me about a pedi opthamologist in the building.

I set up an appt for the girls (I think they were 10 mo old at that point) but again, I never noticed anything consistent and pedi never saw anything either, so it was really for piece of mind (which means a lot, imho!).

We took them in for their exam and the eye dr. said they were fine, we'll just check them again next year (because of my history) so if I were you, I'd probably watch it for the next couple of months (I think 4 mo is what I remember that there shouldn't be any more crossing) and if you're still concerned, definitely take them in. Better to get it checked out and be nothing than to have it be something!

    GL!

    Hi,

I am going thru the same situation but my son is 16 mo. old and it started at 14 1/2 mo. He saw a pediatric neurological opthamologist and we had to patch his good eye for 2 hours everyday for 1 mo. It greatly improved and after 1 mo. dr. said discontinue the patch and recheck in 6 mo. He said it wasn't 100% but it should improve the rest on its own. Well a week later it was noticable again so we started patching again for a week and saw the dr. again. Well my DS is scheduled for bilateral eye surgery on Monday to correct the weak muscles. Since your child is so young it may correct itself, I don't know but I would definately keep an eye on it because when their eyes stay that way it affects their brain developement. Don't mean to scare you but want you to keep an eye on it.

    Good luck!
