Cribs for short care givers

We recently discovered that the cribs that we are using are to tall for my MIL to use. We were given the cribs from others who don't need them any more.

Now I suddenly have to buy 2 new cribs out of the blue.

Does anyone have any recommendations for cribs that have a short front? It stinks that they are no longer making ones that have the front that drops down.

Gotta love the random costs of children.

Hmm... Instead of going out and buying new cribs... I know we wouldn't have been able to afford that-could you get a stool of some sort? Is there a big height difference? A stool would be my first choice if that was possible, or even a pack-n-play. Does she watch them everyday for you?

I'm thinking most cribs are a certain height due to fall risks, so I can't see there being short cribs, kwim? But-maybe someone knows of one out there! Good luck!

Yes she watches them daily. She also gets up with them at night a lot.

Unfortunately she can't stand on a stool due to physical limitations.

We may have to do pack-n-plays, but if I can find cribs that have a short enough front and will convert to a toddler bed, and aren't super expensive I would rather go that route. My biggest problem with pack-n-plays is that they don't have real mattresses in them.

Here is something that has a fold down side.

This is my crib, i got it because the sides seem to be shorter than other cribs. Not sure if this is short enough for you.

Pack n Play could be a good idea... and I think you can get small real mattresses for them.

I think Ikea cribs are pretty short? It wouldn't hurt to check it out. good luck!

If your crib has wheels, take them off and sit the frame right on the floor. I had to make that modification to my son's crib when he was a baby because I couldn't reach over the top and get him when the mattress was in the lowest position. It does save a couple of inches on height.

I second the IKEA cribs. And PNPs-the mattresses really are no harder than a "firm" crib mattress.

I have the baby's dream bed from PP for my oldest. I LOVE it. They are a bit pricy though. Noe that she is at the lowest setting in the bed, it is really easy for me to put her on and get her out. Also, before she started sitting up and all, I just left the folded part down. It was great. I am dreading having to lower the beds for my twins b/c the sides are so high. It's going to be hard to pit them down later but I will worry about that when it comes around.

We had a fold down one like this for DD1. We were able to use it again for one of the twins and used a hand me down for the other twin. I loved the fold-down one so much!!!

I definitely agree with PPs about the Ikea cribs. I also was looking at this one before we decided on the ones we finally got. It's definitely shorter than most other cribs.

I don't think I would get new ones. Before you know it your babies will be standing up in the crib and it won't be as much of an issue to get them in and out. I suppose it depends on how short your your MIL is and how much difficulty she has getting them in and out. If you are going to get new ones I would also suggest the IKEA cribs.

I've been doing research and have pretty much settled on the Ikea cribs. I'll go and check them out on Sunday. I was glad to find that I can reuse my mattresses.

They are already standing, which makes it easy to get them out but the issue is actually that my MIL can't get the boys into the cribs after they fall asleep.

Amy: Would you mind giving the cribs a good hard shake for me? The nearest IKEA is 2 hours away from us and I have been thinking of getting those cribs but I don't want to trek out that far just to find out that they are not sturdy. Thanks :)

We have the pink and blue IKEA cribs - they are the most sturdy cribs we saw, I think they are called Mamut and they only sell them in the stores now, not online. They were $229 each, which is not a lot comparing to what you find in baby stores. We love ours, they are very cute :), they look like toys. I hope this helps.

I bought $99 cribs from Ikea and they are sturdy. I bought three since my youngest daughter needed a new crib as well. We just recently converted her crib to a toddler bed and it is very nice. It sits very low to the ground so if/when she falls out she isn't hurt. Just a little shocked when she is woken up. lol. She jumps on her bed quite regularly and it is still strong six months later. I just check to tighten bolts every few weeks which you should do on any crib. I rarely have to actually tighten one.

I bought them and will be setting them up tonight after work. I'll let you know how it goes. :)
