Crib to Toddler bed

Hi, I have been absent from this board for a while, but I have some questions that my friends with one child stare blankly at me when I ask them. My girls are now 16.5 months old. They are awful sleepers too, so I think I'll have to do some tough love to get them sleeping better before I try any of this.

What age did you transition from a crib to a toddler bed? Do you have them sleep in the same room or separate rooms?

I currently have the girls in cribs in separate rooms. I do want them to share a room at some point, as I have the itch for another baby in the future, and I figure there'll be less resentment if they are sharing now as opposed to when we have another baby. However, I am wondering should I transition them each to toddler beds in separate rooms and then into the same room, or move the cribs into the same room and change to toddler beds together??

We transitioned our girls to toddler beds when they turned two. They were in the same room but they were in the same room when they were in their cribs too. Personally, I would say to keep them in separate rooms for now since that is what they are used to. Otherwise they might think that bedtime is playtime if they are together all of a sudden. Then once they get used to sleeping in their big girl beds you can put them together if you want to.

We moved our boys to toddler beds at 2 1/2. They transitioned very well...much better than I expected. I don't think they were ready before then, but they also didn't try to climb out of the cribs until about then. They have always slept in the same room. I don't think I would put your girls in the same room yet either if they aren't used to it. It would probably be too much change at once. If they are having sleeping problems it seems like you would want to work on that first, for your own sanity. When they can get out of bed it makes things much harder. Good luck!

Well I can't answer this based upon my twins because they are only 18 months and still in cribs, but they have been in separate rooms for almost a year now and that is how they will stay.

With my oldest DD we transitioned her to a mattress on the floor (before going to the bed and this worked great) around 26 months.

I agree with the pp...and I think 16 months might be a little early to go to toddler beds, JMO, but mine are 19 months and I wouldn't dream of switching them yet...personal preference, I know. And i'd like to second that...your girls are precious!!!!!

First of all, your girls are just adorable! That being said...lol, we are transitioning our girls when they are 2.5 (in December). We have another addition on the way mid-March, so I want to do it early enough (but not right now) that they will be good to go and adjusted when the baby comes. They will be in the same room together. They are GREAT sleepers though so I don't anticipate too many problems. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. They've been in the same room (seperate cribs) since we brought them home.
