It might actually get warm enough at some point to go to my parent's cottage (very grumpy about the cold weather). I've got two cribs up there for the boys but they are serious climbers and crib tents are a necessity here at home. I can't imagine taking on and off the tents at home every weekend or buying new ones for just 24 days a year tops (12 weekends). Anybody have any suggestions as to what they did when they traveled?

    Thanks

We used PNP's until 2.5. There are also cot beds cars/princess Target has them or google them. The cot is only 12 inches off the ground and the child is zipped up in the sleeping bag, works great that is what we used now.

Do the sleeping bags come with the cot beds (ie one of those all in one things) or are they separate? How do you get them to stay in the sleeping bags?

My boys won't sleep in a pack'n'play. I suppose they would eventually fall asleep if I left them long enough but naps would be out. They just look at me like "are you kidding me?" That was before they could talk. Now, I'm sure I'd hear a lot more about it. should have definitely started them younger!

How about the Peapod beds? Not sure how the zippers work (don't have them, just have read about them here) but if it opens from the inside too you could rig the zipper on the outside to keep them in. Also, crib tents have great resale value so maybe you could do the smaller tents that only cover the top for the cottage?

We used Peapods for travel but they are not anywhere near as secure as a crib tent and the boys let themselves out whenever they liked. I stayed in the room with them until they finally fell asleep. It wasn't fun but it worked OK. Oh, and naps are far from a sure thing when we're away from home becasue no matter where they sleep, it isn't their comfy bed and they are wound up from doing new & different stuff.

We just got back from a trip to the grandparents, we just brought our tents. It really wasn't that hard, it folds flat (you don't have to take the rods out, you just unstrap all the velcro, untie the bottom, fold it together and then wrap the ties around the ends to keep it flat.)

We always just used P&P's when we traveled, and they could climb out without a fall. But I made their fuzzy, bear, and paci stay in the P&P and that pretty successfully kept them in them.

Yes, it is all in one. It is in a bag about the same size of a PNP about $30, the cot folds out, the sleeping bag slips over the cot, it's very easy. I do lay a blanket down inside the sleeping bag so it is comfy and the material can make it sweaty.
I can tell you my boys had been in cribs with tents since 23 months until yesterday and we only went on vaca once when they were 18 months and once last year where I used the PNP's. In May we were away for a w/e and it was their first time in a bed...the cots...and they did great it was actually helpful in transitioning them.

We went to FL for 3 weeks this winter and the twins were not 2 until April. We just went with the room with two twin beds and I sat in the room until they were asleep. We also made it so it was hard to fall out (moved the furniture around). We did have a few falling out issues the first few days until we figure this out. With that under my best....I'd personally go with something like the sleeping bags on a floor and use a childproof handle cover on the inside of the room to prevent them wandering.
