    Hi there,

I would like any suggestions on the style of cribs to purchase...there are the ones with rails that drop down or the ones with a stationary side. It looks like the stationary sides are typically cheaper?? But, the ones with the rails that drop down seem like they could be a bit less safe??

Thanks so much for any input! This site is GREAT :)

No; ones that the sides drop down are standard on most cribs. They are safe if put together correctly. Most of us short people can't do it any other way. I actually haven't found a crib yet that the sides are stationary. We have a round crib. It takes up less space and I love it very much. Both kids fit in it. Of course both my kids still fit in a bassinet. LOL

Our rails drop down but I never ever have put them down! I am so afraid that if I put it down, I would forget to pull it up!

Mine had rails that dropped down and I never used that feature. I am short too...I just thought it was annoying.

Ours have the drop down rails, but I never use it. I bought ours at Wal-Mart.

we bought 2 'mini-cribs' (DaVinci Emily Crib) cribs & they dont have drop down rails. I am not even 5ft tall & they are PERFECT! Both cribs fit great in one room & left plenty of room for our changing table, dresser, glider etc.
Plus they turn into 2 twin beds as opposed to standard cribs that turn into double beds (we would never have room for 2 double beds...).
Love love love these cribs :)

Our cribs have non-moving sides, but the mattress raises and lowers. Right now it is on the highest setting and we will lower it down when they start to sit up.

My girls cribs do not have the side that drops down, but now I'm wishing that we would have spent a little extra money and gotten that style. I am short (4'11) so I have a hard time lifting my girls up over the rail when they are sleeping to put them down. I have heard of a recent problem with a crib with a drop down rail, it was recalled but only because it was put together wrong.

I have two cribs with sides that slide down and love them. I use the slide up/down feature all the time. I'm 5'4" and the up/down sides helped even when we had the mattresses at the highest setting. You don't have to spend a ton of money for a crib... I think ours were $200 each at Babies R Us and they're quite sturdy.
