Crib, PnP, what did you use in the beginning?

    Hi friends,

I am almost 34 weeks pregnant with twin boys and my dh and I are not anywhere NEAR being fully equipped for the baby babes. My question for all of you is what your sleeping arrangements were when you brought your babies home? Did you keep them in a crib or cribs in a separate room or did you keep them in your room in a pac-n-play type gig or did you do something entirely different?

I would like to know what worked for you and what you would recommend. Thanks!!!

They were in the bassinet part of one packnplay for a bit, although they outgrew the weight limit fairly quickly. Then, I moved them to one full-size crib, still in our room. They stayed in one crib until 6 months.

Because we were feeding every 3 hours round the clock the girls slept in the bassinet section of the pnp in our room for the first 3 months. I just found it easier since they would wake up and end up in our bed pretty much every night.

After that we moved them into their own room where they shared a crib. They shared until they were about 8 months.

Our babies stayed in the PNP not in our room for about a week (we didn't want to stress them out by moving them to a new house after being in the NICU for 5 weeks, then back and forth between the crib and pnp). They slept in the same crib in their own room until they were 3 months old when they started kicking each other, then to seperate cribs in the same room.

we kept ours on the bassinet portion of our pnp in our room for about the first 2 months, then shared a crib in their own room for 2 months , then had to go into their own cribs around 4 months because they kept kicking eachother/waking eachother up. they still share a room though.
if i had to do it again, i would look into a cosleeper though, so i wouldn't have to get up quite so much. if you plan on BF, it would be nice to be able to just reach over and pull them over to you. even if not BF,when they fuss, it would be nice to be able to stay in bed and still put a hand on them. don't know if anyone else used the cosleeper or if you could fit 2 in 1 or not.

We used (and are still using) the arm's reach co-sleeper. I am bf-ing, so it was nice to be able to reach over and just pull them into bed. They are now too big to pull over and we have the co-sleeper set up s a free-standing thing now, across the room. They are just now starting to become too big for it - ( I don't know how much they weigh, but I'd guess about 13 pounds each), so I guess we'll be getting cribs soon.

Just make sure you don't buy the co-sleeper MINI, it is made smaller and won't fit two.

We are keeping them for the most part in the same crib. We do have a crib for each of them but we usually stick them in the same one. I liked the idea of them being together after being apart for so long in the NICU.

They shared a crib for 4-5 months, until they stopped being swaddled, starting disturbing each other and we started sleep training. Then 2 cribs in L-shape (small room). Never really used or needed PnP, etc.

Still in the PnP's by the side of my bed. I set up the nursery last month and put the cribs together, but until they're more consistantly sleeping through the night I don't feel ready putting them in there. Of course, it may be a question of teh chicken and the egg; are they not sleeping because they're still in my room, or are they still in my room becuase they aren't sleeping?

....but the PnP's are great, and versatile later for trips, or just to pop them in wehn you go to the restroom...

They slept in their crib from the first night. The first week they slept together then we moved them to their own cribs. We slept in their room the first few nights just to make it easier on us.

My DD kept her boys in a PnP in the corner of her bedroom for the first three months (together in the bassinet part until they reached about 9-10lbs each, then in the bottom of the PnP) then moved them to their own room in one crib. The boys will be five months old tomorrow and DD just moved one to another crib (same room) last week. She still has the PnP in her room though, and uses it for those nights when one won't settle or is having a bad night. That way he won't wake his brother as they do tend to wake each other up when crying. Also she says it's great to have the PnP in her room for when she has to put them in there to take a quick shower or run to the bathroom.

    Good luck to you!

Maybe I'm the odd one but for the first two months they slept wherever they would sleep. Mine loved their baby papisan chairs that is where they slept most of the time. Sometimes they would sleep in the basinet top of the pnp and they slept in their swings alot too. Now that they are almost 4 mos. they sleep in one crib together. That has only been going on for about 2 weeks now though. I would say it probably won't be a priority to get two cribs right away. We are about to move and we will be getting another crib because they are starting to roll into eachother now. We really do use the changing table on the pnp in the living room alot.

When the babies first came home we put them in our room in a pack and play. We put body pillows around the sides to make it feel smaller and more cozy. We tried to keep it like they did in the NICU. We left them like this until they started moving around and then we put one in the crib and left the other in the PNP. My DD just got moved out of the PNP and into a crib for the first time. She is 9 months old. But that was due to our living arrangements. We do have two PNP's since we like to go out of town a lot.

Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences--I have a better idea of what to do with the boys when they come.

We put them in bassinet part of the PNP until 7 weeks and then we moved them into their own crib in their room.

I had 2 moses baskets. One for each. My girl "moved out" our room at 6 weeks, my boy stayed in our closet for a little longer, first the basket, later a travel pack and play. Now they're together in the room, each in their own crib.

We have a PNP on our first floor that we use the bassinet part for during the day (where they are right now napping) and then they have cribs in their room they sleep in during the night. They just recently (7weeks) had to be put in their own cribs because they were starting to kick eachother during the night. They never slept on our room.

I put them in a twin bassinet PnP for the first few weeks and slept on the chaise lounge so as not to disturb my hubby. At about 2 weeks, I put them in their own cribs and used a monitor. My pedi told me I needed to to get more sleep. My little Ashley was a noisy baby and I never slept at night. Luckily, I had 1 month worth of help from family and friends so I could catnap during the day (I also have a 5 year old). My gals only ever woke up twice in the middle of the night, then once at about 9 weeks. By 11 1/2 weeks they were sleeping 12 hours and they still do at 4 months (but I still have my monitor on)! Good luck to you!

They slept in their papasan chairs for the first 3 months.

They also slept in bassinettes, when we could get them to.

They are now almost 6 months and one is in a portacrib and one is sitll in the bassinette. I do have 2 cribs for them, but haven't transitioned them, they are still in my bedroom.

We used our infant car seats in their cribs. Worked well til they moved around a lot at 4 months and then they were swaddled in their crib together til 5.5 months and then separated into different cribs. Good luck!
