Crazy Weekend ends in Bedrest

Well, wanted to share my weekend with everyone. We had a little scare and am now in the hosptial.

I am at 26 weeks and have already been diagnosed with a short cervix and have had one trip to L&D with contractions. I was put on Procardia for use when needed.

Starting Friday I started getting some cramps, nothing major I just thought maybe I had gas or had growing pains. They continued into Saturday and I started to get worried since they hadn't gone away. They also felt different than the Braxton Hicks contractions I was having before and that sent me to the hospital (which was last week). Anyway I finally called my Dr. and she told me to come in of course.

Once in L&D it was a madhouse. I was monitored and was quickly given a shot (of terbutaline I believe). Then I was quickly set up on an IV and the Doc came in to tell me they were transferring me to Norton's hospital since where I was did not have an NICU for babies so small. So I am getting scared now because I am thinking, Does that mean they are coming?! Turns out my little cramping has been major contractions.

Next, I am put on a Mgnesium drip, which I was so scared of but wasn't really that bad. I was also given steroid shot for babies. My doctor then gave me the FFN test, which in reality should be called torture. The books never tell you they have to do the exam without lube, they just say it is like a pap. It was very painful.

All of this happened in like 20 minutes. Finally, my doctor explained they were sending me elsewhere for precaution and not because I was going into labor right now. She said she was 75% sure I wouldn't deliver tonight but wanted to be safe. Very reassuring right? So I got an exciting ambulance ride to Norton's hospital and moved to my second bed. After answering four thousand questions they put me in a L&D room. More monitoring, more meds, and no sleep.

The next morning I was moved to another room, bed number 4. My contractions were under control but wanted to keep me for ultrasound and Peri examine. So now I am on oral form of Mag and procardia and various other pills I can't even remember. After my ultrasound, found out my cervix went from 1.8 to 1.2 in a week, not good and it is funneling. But thank God no dialation.

Peri told me since I was still so early (26 weeks) he was struggling to know how to best treat me. This is not giving me much confidence in him. Anyway I have to stay in hospital until 28 weeks and then can maybe go home if my cervix will stop shrinking. I don't expect it will and if not then I will be here until these little girls arrive.

I am scared and frustrated and wanted to share and vent. One more thing to complain about. I asked my Peri what would happen if my cervix kept shrinking, meaning will I have to stay in hospital and he proceeds to tell me about another set of twins. They were at 28 weeks and the mother's cervix was gone and the cord prolapsed and one twin died. Can You Believe that??????? Why would he tell me that?

Thanks for letting me share and please keep me in your prayers.

Yeah that peri story was a little unnecessary… why didn’t he come up with a success story…

Well I will keep you in my thought so you may cook them as long as possible

I will keep you in my prayers. You are right that he should not have told you a story like that. You don't need any stress right now. Just rest and have faith that the little ones will stay in there a few more weeks until it is safer for them to come! BTW, if it makes you feel better, a friend of mine had a singleton at 25 weeks due to an infected umbilical cord (she had an UTI) and he is doing awesome! He is 6 months old now and nice and chubby!

Very scary and I pray things will hold tight and those babies don't come out too soon!

    ((((HUGS))))

And PS - from what you said about your Peri, I would be a little worried too. hopefully it was just bad verbal judgement and not medical.... kwim?

I am so sorry you are having to deal with this...how scary!
I bet that the bed rest will help your cervix to stop thinning and the meds will keep you from contracting. I only had to spend two days/nights in the hospital and that felt like torture! I hated having all those monitors on me and the bed was so uncomfortable! Plus with an IV drip I had to pee every half hour-SERIOUSLY!
I hope your babies stay put! I am saying a little prayer for you and your family!
