crazy day of terrible twos

Yesterday was a day to remember. The morning started before 6am with Sarah (one of our two year old twins) calling "Rachael!!"(the other twin) in a way that told me she was not where she was supposed to be. Sure enough I could hear some movement in our computer/office area that's next to our bedroom. Rachael had managed to climb out of the crib and climb over the gate (for the first time) and come downstairs. She was found sitting at the computer desk. I knew it was going to be a long day. My husband brought her back up and put her in her crib. 20 minutes later she was out again but this time went into her older sisters' room and woke them up about 30 minutes early. Then on the way home from dropping my kids off at school I noticed that Rachael had unbuckled her seatbelt in the car!!! By the time it was 9am I needed a break so I put Sesame Street on and went to check my email (checking on the kids every 90 seconds or so). A few minutes later, I found Rachael with the refrigerator door open eating Tabasco Sauce!!!!!!!!!!! Everyone says, "She'll never do that again!" But I just say, "We'll see" because I know that she's not one to learn her lesson the first time!

So I decided to take the girls to the Y to chase the balls around the basketball gym just to get out of the house and preserve my sanity. When I got there, all the "stroller parking" was taken, by some cars that didn't even have carseats inside! That really burns me up. I had brought my jogging stroller instead of my regular double stroller so when got to the doors I couldn't fit inside unless I straddle the 2 doors and pulled them through backwards (do you know what I"m talking about?) Then I got to the front desk and I couldn't fit through the gate!!!!!!!! So I had to take them out of the stroller and fold it up, carry it through, and then put them back in which resulted in a temper-tantrum! (Not me, one of the kids! But I was close!!!!!!) Did I mention they were still in their PJs and sleepers! When I was driving home, I had to sing Old MacDonald over and over to keep them awake because their eyes were getting droopy. The last thing I needed for them was 5 minute power nap in the car to destroy their afternoon nap. Well, it didn't matter anyway, because nap-time was met with endless battles of climbing out of the crib and putting her back in. Then when I went to pick up my kids at school I saw my kids playing head to head with their friend who has head lice...(my girls hair is all pulled back, but their friends hair is flapping in the breeze) Did I mention that we have been lice free for about 4 weeks after battling with it for a month. I was so exhausted last night...more mentally than physically...but I foolishly decided to organize the mountains of clothing bins in my basement which took me until 1am. Did somebody say this is supposed to get easier???????????? : :drown:

Wow! That sounds like a really tough day. But, let me tell you, you have alot more strength and fortitude than I do becaue I would have never a)ventured out to the Y and b)once it seemed that the stroller was not going to make it through the entrance easily, I would have probably turned right back around and gone home. Plus, after all that you went through, I would not have had enough mental or physical energy to start organzing ANYTHING.

It sounds like you are doing a fantastic job as a mother and have the stick-to-it-ness that I aspire to have. :woman:

OMG - I just had a hard time breathing reading that. HUGS! OMG - things just got REALLY tough about a month ago. I had to go to bed at 8:30 last night to catch up on some sleep debt, because honestly, if I don't I am afraid I will have an anxiety attack...EEK! This will be an interesting year. :wine: :help:
