i was told at around 14 months, kids should be able to draw a 2 inch line. we do no drawing over here, lol.

    how do i do this?
do i buy paper and crayons and lay it on the floor? how do you ensure your house doesnt get ruined but teach the kids to use crayons, markers, etc

    do i get crayola?

Put them in booster seats at the table. Tape a large piece of paper on the table and give them two crayons each. Let them have at it! We don't do much coloring over here because they just eat the crayons and paint. Have fun!!

This is what we did. I started off with the Tadoodles by Crayola crayons and my kids LOVE to draw...just let them go. I don't worry about what they can and cannot draw, I just let their imaginations do the work for them. I did find as my kids got older, that my DD loves to peel the paper off the crayons so we started buying the crayola twistable crayons and it does eliminate some of the mess.
About eating crayons...my DD ate a blue crayon and managed to look like a Smurf  We had to go through telling her, no eat crayons for a while and then she finally got it.

Also look into the Color Wonder line by Crayola, It's special markers, paints, taht are clear and only work on special paper

My boys are part goat and will not only eat the crayons, but also the paper they are supposed to be drawing on. I just ordered travel aquadoodles for them. I have a huge one from my girls that the boys seem to like, so I got 2 smaller ones for the boys. The pens are filled with water and once the picture dries out, they can color all over again. I seriously think this is the best invention ever because their is no way for kids to destroy anything.

I absolutely recommend this also, all my boys love it, we even have one that we bought back in Ireland, that you can trace train tracks and a little Thomas engine will then follow the tracks however they have been drawn. It is the absolute best, plus, even if they do put the pen in (which they do!!) it is perfectly safe and there is no mess whatsoever, definitely the best toys ever!!!

    thank you everyone!!
i went to toys r us and got them washable crayons; the thickest crayola ones i could find. i hope they work out after nap time.
with my boosters, they cant reach the table.

should i tape some white paper to the floor?? :FIFblush:

You can do that or also tape the paper to the booster seats trays.

Do you have highchairs? or trays for the boosters? At that age I found it so much easier to do creative activities with them contained.
If you have no other option then go ahead and put them on the floor-hard flooring would be better than carpet/rugs, both for the crayons drawing (much harder to make the colour come out well on a soft surface) and for cleaning up if they go over the edge of the paper.

    Have fun!

good luck! ours at 27 months still don't do a whole lot, mainly b/c mommy gets frustrated with the crayon eating too!

and as for the aquadoodles... ours suck the water out of the pen tip end. UGH! its not like there isn't a sippy of water sitting right next to them.

I do think I need to bite the bullet and try to get them to like and cooperate with drawing... so good luck to you all!
