Jack is ALMOST there, he is up on all fours constantly and he has all the motions down but he can't quite get moving. He either crawls backwards or he plops forward on his face. James I am a little worried about. If I put him on his belly he immediately rolls over but can't roll back. When he wants to move somewhere he scoots on his back! He arches his back and uses his head and feet to inchworm his way to where he wants to go, it is so weird and he gets really frustrated. I don't know it just seems a little strange but I don't want to compare them. James does different things than Jack, he is very coordinated with his hands and is very verbal. Jack just seems much more mobile. Does this sound normal, has anyone else had their baby do the whole back crawling thing?

I cant help you out, but I wanted to say that your twins sound like mine! Sophia does the "back crawling" thing and/or rolls everywhere. She is also the one who is more verbal and seems to have better hand/eye fine motor skills. Naomi is almost sitting on her own (they are just over 5 months) and has no interest in rolling. She will "back crawl" once in awhile but not much. I think its just a difference of babies....Im curious to see what others have to say though!

Mine pushed themselves backwards (on their bellies, not on all fours) for a long time. My girls were late I think, they didn't start really crawling until 10.5 months.

One of mine was up on all fours rocking for a couple of weeks before he just started crawling on all fours. My other boy would get up on all fours but if he went to move he went down on his belly and did the belly crawl for awhile then eventually graduated to the all four crawl. They probably started all of this at about 9 months.

MY DD was about 6 months when she started crawling and DS was about 7 months. DD started backwards too....it lasted about 2 weeks and now she is walking....it goes so fast!

Mine were rocking up on all fours FOREVER! Like 6 weeks. They have really only been crawling lots for about 3 weeks and Lilly would still rather sit than crawl, although she will if she really wants something. You have LOTS of time -don't worry!

the backward moving thing is perfectly natural - our girls were just evaluated by a pt for early intervention (which they don't need!) and i asked her; she said it's because their trunks and heads weigh more, so when they're up on all fours the natural motion is backwards until they learn to propel forwards. D was going backwards for about three weeks before she went forwards, T is still going backwards but is rocking more.

I don't thnk you havea nything to worry about

David started crawling around 7.5 months and William still doesn't crawl at 8.5 months but does the commando scoot crawl.

Just wanted to chime in to say it sounds pretty normal. My DD crawled at 6 months 3 weeks but my DS is still trying to figure it all out. He gets up on all fours and rocks but he can't quite put it all together yet. And he doesn't get into a sit very easily. My DD back crawled quite a bit before she went forward and my DS is starting to move backwards.Having just seen my DD go through this, I think he'll be crawling in a month or so.

    Don't worry! Enjoy.

My oldest was 7 months, the twins were 8 and 9 months, then 10 months and the baby just started and she is 8 months.

Beau is on all fours rocking and can move alittle but tends to go backwards alot. LOL... Savannah is yet to get up on all fours... she can for a second then she is back down, she rolls to where she wants to go it is so funny. No worries, Mine are a little over 7 months... I want them to wait, i know once they crawl we will be given a run for out money! LOL...

Mine pushed backwards before they learned to go forward. Sounds very normal to me. 6 months crawling is great!

The boys starting dragging themselves/commando crawling at 5 months and shortly after mastered crawling on hands and knees. Even though they were premature, they have always had great body control and dexterity.
