Crawling before sitting up!

My ds can't quite reliably sit up on his own without falling over, yet he is already crawling around - this seems a bit backwards to me! Aren't they suppose to sit first and then learn to crawl??

 

Technically yes, they should. But I know at least 2 people with babies IRL who did the exact same. I would just bring it up to the Ped at your next visit if he is still not sitting unassisted.

 

Annalise had to be put into a sitting position. Once she began to crawl, she could put herself into a sitting position.

both of mine were crawling before sitting up....and now one is sitting and the other is trying! so just enjoy this stage, it doesn't last long!

 

My DS1 was the same way. He's just too much of a busy-body to sit still so he crawled before he could sit well. I think he even pulled up on the crib and couch before we saw him sit himself up.

 

My twins crawled and started sitting right around the same time. I can't remember which came first!

 

That's one of mine. He won't sit still for 2 seconds so he has never learned to sit. Crawling is so much more fun. His brother on the other hand sits really well, and has better form when crawling probably because of it. I am sure when he is ready he will learn how to do it.
