I just wanted to share with everyone since my girls cradle cap is finally gone. I had tried everything: Aquaphor, Selsun Blue, olive oil, my girls either looked like grease-monkeys for days or smelled like a bad perm.

Someone told me to try Dawn dish detergent because it will cut through grease. ONE shampoo and Maia's was gone, TWO shampoos and Sofie's is gone! And they smell good and their hair is literally squeaky clean!

So for anyone else who is dealing with cradle crap, use Dawn! Good luck!

Great! 1-2 shampoos! Thanks for sharing.

Did you still have to comb it out or did it just wash away?

My DD has it, but mostly on her soft spot and around that area and I'm afraid to com it out. I don't want to hurt her.

I used the hospital brush when I washed their hair, its a plastic soft bristle brush. The girls liked it because it was like a head massage, I did it gently, but they kept scratching their poor little heads so I figured the brush probably felt like a hundred little fingers scratching their heads for them. :)

    Good luck!!

Thanks for posting- both of my little ones have it and the olive oil I tried didn't seem to finish the job!

Wow I would have never thought to use that. My hands get so dried out from dish detergent though so maybe thats why I wouldn't think to. I used that cradle cap lotion (in the green bottle with winnie the pooh on it) and a comb and that did the job.

I have them laying on a bath pillow in the tub and I rinse while they are laying down as well. I kind of slip my fingers behind their necks to tilt their head back a little more too.

ETA: Old picture (they still fit in the sink!!) but this is Sofie on the bath pillow

Get out! I can't believe that did the trick. One of my girls still has it pretty bad, so I'm going to give this a shot.

For us, we used baby oil slathered on pretty thick and a fine tooth comb. The majority was gone after one combing. You don't even have to comb hard b/c the baby oil makes the head so soft and greasy.

NOTHING works for us. I'm going to give this a try today. The thing I'd like to know is how do I tell if it is cradle cap or bad eczema on her scalp? Or is it the same thing? She has bad eczema all over her body, so I wonder if anything will work for her flaky scalp. I hope she gets some hair soon to help cover it a bit. Maybe I should try some Baby Rogaine. ha ha
