    Good morning ladies,

My 8 week old son has cradle cap. What is the best way to handle it? I bought some shampoo but it doesn't seem to be helping. Any suggestion are welcomed! Thank you so much in advance...

My pediatrician said to use head & shoulders.. I know dd had some as an infant and we used that in combination of just trying to 'rub' it off. Good luck!

Both of my boys have cradle cap and our pedi told us to use Selsun blue. Put it on for 15 minutes and the wash it off. Watch their eyes though because it can burn them. She said also use a comb to go through it and don't pick it. They told us to do it 2 or 3 times a week.

    Good luck.

My girls also had cradle cap, I use the washcloths that have the soap in them - like the Pampers or Huggies disposable washcloths that have the soap in the cloth, and that totally got rid of the cradle cap. I think it's because it has moisturizers. And I only wash their hair every other day.

I read and then tried olive oil. I'd rub olive oil on their heads and rub it in and let it sit a few minutes.
Then under warm water I'd scrub it off w/ that nifty little newborn hair brush they come home with. Always worked for me.

My girls had what I think was a mild case. No redness or rash, just super super flaky. Since it didn't look irritated I put baby oil on it, waited about 10 minutes, then washed their hair with baby wash and a cloth. After it was nice and wet I took a baby comb and took off all the dead skin. It came out pretty easily. I only did that once and it was dramatically improved.

Baby oil or even vaseline rubbed onto their scalp, then comb through to loosen, then wash a couple of times to get out the oil. Always worked great for my kids.

I just let it be and it went away on its own.

I used baby oil on the advice of my pedi, but I wouldn't recommend it or if you do, use a TINY bit. It had to wash poor Meara's hair 6 times to get the oil out and even then it was in her hair. I also tried the cradle cap lotion they sell (in a green container and has winnie the pooh on it). That worked well. I put it on at the beginning of a bath then at the end of the bath used a baby comb to loosen the scales and then washed their hair twice.

I also used Olive Oil -I'd let it sit for 30 minutes before bath time (we called it "marinating"), and then washed with shampoo, and scrubbed her scalp with a toothbrush. I also used my fingernails to pick the skin off. Yuck. But it worked pretty well.

We did this too, but our pedi told us to use mineral oil. It still comes back occasionally, but the huge thing of oil was less than $2!

My pedi suggested putting some hydrocortisone cream on their head the night before then washing it good in the morning.

I have to admit I struggled with cradle cap with my first son for the first 9 months or so. We tried just about everything and probably made him miserable by always scrubbing at his head. Honestly, nothing really worked all that well and eventually it just went away on its own.

We just started using T-Gel and scrubing her head with that brush they come home with. So far it has improved ALOT! We just have to watch her eyes when rinsing.

I used mineral oil and let my kids marinate for an hour. Then I put them in the bath and combed all the flakes out. Then I washed their hair 3 times to get all the oil out! :p

Wow! There are some great suggestions! Thank you all so much. I will be bathing him tonight, I think I will try the oil.
