    Hi there,

I noticed both of mine are getting a little cradle cap right near the front of their head. My doctor had told me never to use baby oil or powder on them so I am unsure what to use. My mother says they always used baby oil.

Basically, I have tried nothing and it isn't working. :)

I see Disney bath care products sells a cradle cap care product. Does it work?

How did you deal with cradle cap?

    Thanks in advance!

I always used baby oil for my boys who had very bad cradle cap since they were born in Dec. and it took it away. Never heard of not being able to use it... that is like the age old cradle crap cure. Ask next visist but I am sure you will be fine using baby oil.

I used baby lotion but you can also use vegetable oil (my mom used to use Crisco on me!) Why are you not supposed to use baby oil?

It is an allergy to the scent. Both babies react to it. She said not to use it, but didn't say what to use. LOL

I just did nothing, except for normal bathing, and it went away on its own.

Gerber also sells a cradle cap kit.

Word of advice: if you use the "gel" it tells you to apply first, use only a little!!!
It is very thick and I learned the hard way if you use too much you get a baby
with slick looking hair for days!!!

But it works great; rub the gel on the cradle cap, wait a little, than use the enclosed comb
to comb out the flakes. It comes with a shampoo to use and lotion too.

Sorry if I sound lost, but my babies have no hair. What do I comb? LOL

I used baby oil and boy was that a mistake! My doctor said to put the oil on, then put on a hat and let the oil sit for about 10-15 minutes and then wash it out. Sounds simply, but good god! Poor Meara. I had to wash her hair 7 times and it was still oily. Then the poor pumpkin sat on my lap for 15 minutes while I combed her hair. She is not my patient girl, but that night she was. After all that work it made it look worse.

That was 2 months ago. Since then, I've just washed their hair normal and if I see a little 'crap' on their heads, I comb it (or scratch it) and it goes away. I think its clearing up on its own now.

After the baby oil debackle, I emailed all my 'experienced mommy friends' for suggestions and they said: olive oil or just combing it/scratching it off. The oil is just supposed to loosen the scales and make it easier to remove. Good luck!!! -Leighann

I used olive oil a couple of times. I would put it on about 2 hours before a bath and then I would wash their hair in the bath and run a comb through it. It helped.

But time was the main thing that helped. It went away on its own.

I wouldn't use baby oil - it's full of chemicals - if they got it in their mouths it wouldn't be good. It's not like you really want them eating olive oil but if they do happen to get a bit on their hands and then into their mouths it's not a big deal.

My boys still have a little cradle cap. I read to try Head and Shoulders, and I did that with Chase but I accidentally got some in his eyes and the way the poor baby wailed and how red his eyes got, I discarded that idea and haven't touched it since. Thier cradle cap is very small and is going away on it's own. The doc said it should go away by the time they turn one.
