Hello, I was just wondering what anyone's method was to get rid of it. I noticed the boys had it just the other day. My mom said when we all got it, she would put baby oil on our heads and just use a fine-tooth comb to comb it out. My boys have so much hair, it's kinda hard to see where it all is, I just noticed little flakes coming out at first. Another friend just gave us a bottle of 'Cradle cap and massage oil'. So just wondering how long it takes to get rid of it, I guess, and should we start using baby shampoo just to clean their heads or something different? We use the J&J Head-to-Toe washcloths that are just ready to use.

One of my girls has lots of hair that it is hard to get out of.... to knock out the bulk of it... all the flacky... I put them in the tub and wet their heads and brush it with a baby brush this has worked wonders... one more thing is an anitbacterial soap... that was the hairdressers suggestion and it worked....

Using Regular Head and Shoulders shampoo works like a charm! Just make sure you don't get it in their eyes. Cradle cap is caused by seborrhea, which is the same thing that causes adult dandruff.

The head and shoulders really does work - it was recommended to me nearly 30 years ago with my then infant daughter - worked like a charm.

Olive oil works wonders and it's less likely to be harmful if they accidently get it in their mouths. I put it on an hour or two before a bath then I washed their hair in the bath.

But it should just go away on it's own if you don't want to bother treating it.

DS has a ton of hair and even as a newborn he had a lot. He got cradle cap and I tried the olive oil method, didn't work for us. I then moved on to baby oil and the fine tooth comb (used the one from the hospital) and would leave it on for a while, having massaged it into his scalp, then put him in his bathtub and would comb at it. I washed his head with baby shampoo finally and just left it alone until the next bath 2 days later. It took a few washings but it all came out finally.

Emma had a really bad case of it. What I did was marinate her head in mineral oil (but any oil would do) and let it sit for an hour. (Be really careful if you use this method because you don't want oil everywhere!) I then got a fine tooth comb and combed all the flakes out, then washed her head with plenty of baby soap. She was slightly oily until her next bath but it was great because her flakes were gone. Once you get rid of it, then it should be gone for good. Cradle Cap rarely returns after it's been totally cleared up.

Both of my girlies have tons of hair and didn't get cradle cap until they were like 4 months old. We tried all of the "oil" methods, but nothing worked until we started using the head and shoulders in the bathtub. Then I'd scrub it in with their litle hair brushes and rinse. Now they don't have any problems and I just "maintain", using the H&S, once very 2 weeks or so. Good Luck.
