So, Madison has got cradle cap...And it smells. Even after I wash her hair and everything, I can still smell the odor on top of her head! It's driving me CRAZY! Do ya'll have any suggestions as to what I can do for her?

baby oil and a soft bristle baby brush...a little bit of baby oil will help soften it up and then brush her head, even if she has little to no hair...this helps remove the scaly dried skin without hurting her head..

My twins had cradle cap and my son had it the worst (smelled bad). This is what our pedi instructed to do (I would definitely ask your pedi before doing this): Our pedi called this the mineral treatment. First, you MUST have two people when giving this treatment - one to hold on to the babies hands so they can't get the shampoo on their hands, the other to wash their hair. You apply a small amount of Head and Shoulders (this contains the mineral - zinc) to a dry scalp. Work it in gently with a comb or toothbrush. Let sit for 5 minutes. Rinse out of hair being very careful not to get soap in eyes. Repeat every night or every other night until gone.

I have to say...my first son also had cradle cap and we were told to just keep scraping his scalp with a comb during hair washing time and to loosen the scales. It took FOREVER to get rid of it this way. I was skeptical when our pedi told us about the "mineral treatment" because it seemed so harsh to put H&S on them. We only had to do it 2 or 3 times on both babies and it was gone!

    Good luck! :)

I used the Burt's Bee Apricot Oil to massage Alex's head. I would massage it every morning and then brush with a soft brush. It has a really nice scent.

We did this but used a comb instead to scrape the scales off.

My ped recommended regular Head and Shoulders shampoo. Of course be careful around their eyes. Cradle cap(crap! as he calls it! ) is caused by the same thing that causes adult dandruff.

One of my girls has a thin layer of it, we put vegtable oil on over night, washed it out the next day and brush with a soft brush..the flakes are loosening and coming away gradually. It doesn't seem like it's a quick fix though so i may try some of these suggestions too.

I picked it off (and a lot of DS's hair in the process). It did get rid of the cradle cap, but it didn't look pretty for awhile (lots of flakes in his hair).

My pedi recommended T-Gel by Neutragena. Just be careful not to get it in their eyes. It worked for my DS. It only took using it a few times and it's all gone.

Olive oil works great! My two year old had it when she was a baby and my twins are starting to get it already. Good luck!

mineral oil also works well, I rubbed it in with every diaper change and then combed it out once or twice a day

Luke still has issues with it from time to time & he's almost 3! Maybe I'll try the H&S treatment, I've gotten tired of trying everything else. Thanks ladies!

We used Head & Shoulders. It worked quickly, maybe after using it 2-3 times. I bought a travel size bottle bc I wasn't sure how much we'd need and I still had some left by the time my daughter's cradle cap went away.

This is what I did with my other children. It works every time and you don't have to worry about getting chemicals on their skin or in their eyes. Plus baby oil smells good IMO. :)

Tina, Jake still gets it too when I haven't used H&S for awhile.

Thanks for all the great ideas! I think I am gonna try the H&S first, since we have some of that already. If that doesn't cut it, then we'll try something different! I'll let ya'll know how it all goes!

I second this. We used this the other night and the cradle crap is gone! I rubbed some on the baby's head a while before his bath (maybe an hour early) and then when in the bath I scrubbed his head (gently but firmly with a washcloth) (and picked at it a little bit, I'll admit!) and it was gone. I had done the scrubbign with the wash cloth before, with no avail. So, the cream really made the difference in softening it.

[Yep, regular head and shoulders works great! Be careful of eyes and scrape afterwards.

I had success with this too. I rubbed it into their scalp about an hour before their bath then washed their hair thoroughly. It made an improvement immediately!

I did baby oil with my oldest dd and a soft brush, I tried that with my twin ds and it didn't work, so I used a cradle cap formula from walmart, it had winnie the pooh on it, and it helped after a couple washings. My next step was H&S.

If the H&S doesn't work, try Selson Blue...my DD had a mild case and dr. said that Selson Blue sometimes works better. Did the trick for us! GL!
