I tried searching this forum for this topic, but the search just gives me an error message so I'm posting a new topic. Has anyone switched from formula to whole milk before 12 months? Our baby will be a year old in 2.5 weeks and I was thinking of doing the switch now. Would another 2 weeks of formula be THAT important? Anyone know?

If I remember correctly we switched the twins right around their first birthday or maybe a few days after.

    TIA!

I have switched a little early with one of my older children. I asked the pediatrician and she said a couple of weeks early was not going to hurt anything.

I think we switched ds1 a week or two early also. IMO a couple of weeks isn't going to matter. I don't think their 1st b-day is some magical number that.. poof!.. they are ready for cows milk all of a sudden. ;)

I doubt 2 weeks are going to make a big difference. As long as they aren't having weight gain issues, I would think it would be fine. I always waited until I had taken them for their 1 year checkup & the doctor said they were good to go off of formula, but I never once had the doctor say they weren't ready at 1 year.

I switched my oldest ds at 10 months, he had horrible reflux and in desperation I was trying anything to help with the puking. We used the lactaid milk and it did better than regular milk or formula.

I switched my oldest dd at 10-11 months as well, she was plenty big enough (90+% for height and weight) and we were driving 3 days to canada and it was easier to use milk than formula for the trip.

I plan to switch the twins around the same time frame, because at 11 months we'll be making that same trip to canada (my family lives there) and as I said, milk is easier to come by and deal with than formula :)

My ped has always been fine with when I switched my kids, they were all eating a good variety of regular foods by then and never lacked for the nutrition that formula provides!

My last 3 have switched at 9 months, per ped's recommendation. I wouldn't worry about the 2 weeks!

LOL! Oh but I was so looking forward to watching that magical poop! :)

Well it looks like so many have had good experiences with switching a little early. I feel better now about it. THANK YOU!

I would not worry about switching now either. I started half milk/formula at 11 months. Good luck!

We switched at around 11months because I wanted mine off the bottle completely at a year. If you have any concerns talk to the ped, but it shouldn't be a problem! Good luck... Oh and hope you have some magical poop  It was hard to come by when we switched :hush:

We switched my older DD at 6 months - on the advice of the pediatrician. She had absolutely no problems at all. We'll see how things go with the twins - I will just follow what the ped. says. But I have to say that I loved switching DD so early - only six months of paying for formula was really nice!!
