DH and I are having some discussion on this issue. We have twin girls and ideally would like them to room together for as long as possible. DH thinks convertibles are a good way to go long-term...I think that putting 2 full beds in one room when they are older might not work. Just looking for opinions and experience.

If you have same sex twins what are you going to do (have done and why?).

Well, we have room for two full beds so we got convertibles but they've pretty well trashed them between the chewing and the hammering so it won't be their long-term bed (they are using them as toddler beds now). If there isn't a big price difference, convertibles add the flexiblity of that in-between toddler bed step even if you don't ever use it for a big bed. My big caveat, though, is to stay away from non-standard shapes and/or solid backs because it makes using crib tents tricky or impossible.

I purchased non-convertible cribs because I don't have the space for two full size beds. I wish I had convertible ones now, though, because I'd like to switch my girls to toddler bed (basically one side is taken off and there's a small railing on part to keep the child from falling out).

The advice I'd give is to find cribs where the side lowers down -- it makes it MUCH easier to put a sleeping child into bed. hat's much more important than converting. Of course, if you can find one where the side lowers and it converts into a toddler or day bed, that's the best of all worlds.

We have a convertible with one drop side, one solid side, and I love it.

I've used it thru 2 kids, only converted to the toddler bed, but it's soooo worth the money.

My kids only used it as toddler beds for about 6 months, but it made that transition from comfy cozy crib to great big twin bed much easier! They got used to sleeping without one rail first, and then put them into a twin bed without both sides.

I highly recommend at least one that converts to a toddler bed, there are some out there because thats' what we're going to buy for the second baby.

We purchased to regular cribs that convert only to toddler beds, because we did not have enough room for the other type of cribs or to have two full beds in the room later. We got ours at bru and they look like regular cribs?(not the ones where the sides dont come down). They were from babi Italia pinehurst. They look beautiful in the room, plus there was room for the matching armoire and combo unit. It all fits great in a 10x12 room.

We had convertibles and ended up getting rid of them and getting 2 twin beds.
