For the past few days/maybe a week, T1 has been covering his ears like its too loud for him. Its random and not when there is loud noise or a change in volume levels of noise around him. He's not pulling on his ears at all, just covering them. He just started doing 'so big' around the same time, so maybe its just related to that? Is this just a quirk or should I should be concerned about? Could it be an ear infection? He's not fussy at all.

I guess it could be an ear infection, but it sounds to me like something he has just learned to do. My guess is, like anything new and novel, it will start to wear off in a little while, maybe a few days, maybe a few weeks. If it continues for more than a couple of weeks, or he starts pulling his ears or being fussy, I would get him checked out. Or if you happen to be at the doctor for another reason, definitely have it checked while you're there.

Did he get a cold/ congested lately? Hows his milk intake? My son got his first ear infection like 2 months ago. He never had any symptom: pulling ears, fussing, NO FEVER, but he refused his bottles. Use your judgment. If u concern than call doc office talk to a nurse. Hope nothing wrong!

My twins love to cover their ears on occasion, as well. My theory is that they like the change in how things sound when they do it - you know, kind of that tunnel/muffled sound it can create. Often when they do it they make noises at the same time and seem to think it is funny. Sometimes they do it together but often it is just one kid or the other. They've been doing it every so often since they were probably 18 months old, too, and all their well baby checkups have been fine - Dr always says their ears look great and, to my knowledge, they have never had ear infections. They also seem to hear just fine. But, I would definitely watch it and see if it appears to be more than just a new fascination with something different.

I think probably a quirk. We went through this a lot. And that seems too young to pull ears because of an ear infection. Most likely they just start noticing all these body parts and how to manipulate them. :)

Thanks girls! I think it may just be the change in sound. He has finally started babbling (YAY!!) and I've noticed he's babbling a lot when he covers his ears. He must just like how it sounds

Babies do weird things sometimes! Mine went through an ear covering phase for a while.. only when my husband played guitar! He was pretty offended  Probably just a phase he's going through.
