Could things possibly get more crazy?

We left the US end of December after 4 years and 3 kids later. We got our stuff in our rental half of January ... and about 1 month later my husband is discussing a possible move to Hong Kong. He just returned and will go again in 2 weeks. Some people want him to start ASAP. However, I think we won't join until late August (shipping our stuff end of June / early July). That will mean I'll be a single mom quite a lot during April - June, then go to my parents house with the kids and wait for the arrival of our stuff. And of course, I need to fly out to look for a house, although my dh will start looking at his next trip to get at least an idea. My oldest got admitted to an a very popular international school here, and now it seems I can start all over. I don't even know where to start. Don't get me wrong ... I'd really like to go, but man ... 2 international moves within 9 months, with 3 kids, sounds like a lot to me?!

OMG! That IS a lot. I know you gotta do what you gotta do but that really is a lot. Being a single mom to 3 kids for months at a time has got to be incredibly difficult. I'm sorry you have to go through all that.

BTW, just curious. How much does it cost to ship all your stuff overseas? We are getting ready to move to Puerto Rico and although it is a "part" of the US, it is still across the ocean so I have no clue how much it will cost to ship our stuff. I don't know if it will cost $2000 or $10,000.

We (company) paid $10k excluding insurance for a 40 feet container. Included 2 days of packing and loading (boxes everything), transportation, and then unloading again here (unfortunately not unpacking boxes ;)). It also included our car (which took up 18 feet of the 40 feet container). Insurance was another couple of thousand (it's basically $2.5 per $1000 you insure also for the car), in case the boat sinks, your container goes overboard, etc. We had to keep in mind buying everything back in Europe (and not the US) which is now more expensive. E.g. the car we have was $45k here, euro 67k in Europe, which is $90k ....

To HKK we plan to take boxes only (about 50 or so) in a crate and buy IKEA furniture. That's what a lot of people do over there, also because of the high humidity, etc.
